WebMD Launches An Online Guide To Teach Americans About Obamacare

WebMD Launches An Online Guide To Teach Americans About Obamacare

By Sy Mukherjee

WebMD has a new section of its site devoted to educating people about Obamacare

Confused about Obamacare? Want to know more about your insurance options before open enrollment in October? Don’t even know what “open enrollment” means? The largest online health website in the country, WebMD, wants to help answer your questions.

WedMD on Tuesday announced that it is launching a comprehensive online consumer guide to the health care law dubbed the “Health Care Reform Center.” The interactive page features everything from informational videos about Obamacare’s insurance marketplaces, consumer protections, and enrollment options, to quizzes and FAQs about the law’s provisions, and even personalized calculators that help visitors determine how much help they’ll get from government insurance subsidies.

The online medical resource made its announcement in the same week the federal government launched two sites meant to educate American families and businesses about the Affordable Care Act. Those visiting the new webpages can view training videos and infographics, and sign up for preliminary online accounts that give them information about how the law affects them. Consumers will then be able to use those same accounts to find acceptable health plans and enroll in coverage starting October.

Obamacare proponents hope that the information hubs will counteract rumors and false information that could make it harder for people to buy insurance. Americans still have huge misconceptions about Obamacare and are confused by basic concepts in health insurance such as “deductibles,” “premiums,” and “co-pays,” according to recent surveys.

Thank you ProSense!

“To the extent that 25 million more Americans get insurance and they will fill their prescriptions, that is certainly a good thing for our company,” says Helena Foulkes, CVS-Caremark’s chief health care strategy and marketing officer.

On Thursday, CVS announced a new campaign to educate consumers about the Affordable Care Act; it will include handouts for customers and events targeting shoppers in areas where uninsured rates are high.

CVS’s efforts come on the heels of actions taken by Walgreens, which developed a partnership with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association to teach consumers about new options, which will open for enrollment on Oct. 1.

“Walgreens is a trusted community resource for health and wellness information, and through this collaboration we hope the millions of Americans who will be entering the marketplace in October are more informed and better prepared,” Brad Fluegel, Walgreens’ senior vice president and chief strategy officer, said in a statement earlier this month.

They would like to spend way less time trying to get lifesaving care and meds for their uninsured patients.

If it is, it could be a new "go to" source to refer people to, in order for them to get started. I go to WebMd a lot for conventional wisdom about pharmaceuticals, symptoms, etc. They're pretty good for a primary (starting place) site.

I usually do more research than just WebMd, but they have some good preliminary info about things.

Contrary to the lies of the far right, it was the medical industry that lobbied the most for Obamacare because it saves lies while saving people much money.

Thank you for starting this thread.

A word of advice to DU readers - please post this important news on other websites so that many others can learn of its truth.

Thanks!

Survey: Most U.S. clueless about Affordable Care Act
Published: May 1, 2013 at 2:52 PM

MENLO PARK, Calif., May 1 (UPI) -- A U.S. survey on the Affordable Care Act indicates Americans are clueless about the law in general and how it will affect their family in particular.

The April tracking survey of the Kaiser Family Foundation found 42 percent were unaware the Affordable Care Act was the law of the land:

-- 12 percent said they thought the law was repealed by Congress.

-- 7 percent said they been overturned by the Supreme Court.

-- 23 percent said they don't know enough to say what the status of the law was.

Forty-nine percent said they did not have enough information about the healthcare reform law to understand how it would impact their own family.

Fifty-eight percent of the uninsured and 56 percent of low-income households -- two groups most affected by healthcare reform -- said they didn't have enough information to understand how the Affordable Care Act would affect their family.
