The Republican Party, champion of self-deportation for illegal immigrants, has made a special point of antagonizing so-called Dreamers children brought into the country by their undocumented parents. A reversal of that stance would be welcome even if its impelled by self-serving motives.
In 2010, Republicans blocked the Dream Act, which would have allowed undocumented high school graduates to gain legal status over 10 years if they finish college or serve in the military. In June,House Republicans passed a measure that raised the specter of deporting every unauthorized youngster in the United States by reversing the reprieve they were granted by President Obamas executive order last year.
Now, having postured and threatened their way into the nightmares of a generation of Hispanic youths, to say nothing of their parents, some in the party are reconsidering. Gripped by the dawning realization that their long-established policy is electoral folly, a few House Republicans say they are prepared to talk about legalization or citizenship for Dreamers just not (yet, at least) for their parents, who make up the bulk of the nations 11 million illegal immigrants.
Time will tell whether the hints of a shift on the Dream Act are an opening that might eventually lead to broader reform of the nations broken immigration system one that includes a path to citizenship or legality for the 11 million. The smarter money says that the party is simply maneuvering to escape blame for the Republican leaderships refusal to allow a vote in the House on the sweeping immigration bill passed by the Senate in June.
Either way, it remains the case that the Dream Act would materially improve the lives of perhaps a million or more young immigrants who might be eligible for citizenship under its criteria. It is sensible policy, and it should become law.

But to keep the cost of labor down.
While some workers in America look down on and demonize them, their eyes are blind to the boot coming down on them from above. That's all this is ever about.
The GOP cannot support anything but punitive measures to make them look like criminals since that would give them their day in the sun and change this nation.
Note they never go after the employers in their smears. And never want to pay Americans a living wage to do their work. It's all so dishonest.
Some Americans will fall for the division hook, line and sinker. It's so easy to get some people to hate, so hard for them to see that we're all the same.
And the myth of illegals voting is a potent one among some voters. Many long time hispanic residents have been disengaged from the political process for many years because they had a family member whose status was in question.
Some also came from countries where they'd been so suppressed and kept out of the political process, they became apathic and sought other ways to live, completely outside the democratic process.
Now we have a new generation who want to be Americans in every way - the GOP hates that. Because they are in bed with those who proftit by discrimination and know they can lose money by supporting equality.
That's all it is. That's all it ever was.

They do freshwest.
Surprising, no. They hate America with a passion.
The only thing that they idolize? The almighty dollar and what it will buy for them and their puppeteers.
They want to own America lock stock and barrel.
