Sen. Elizabeth Warren Mocked Larry Summers as Eva Peron in 2009, Backs Janet Yellen to Head Federal Reserve
MARK KARLIN, EDITOR OF BUZZFLASH AT TRUTHOUT
warren468 10Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D - Massachusetts) is publicly supporting Janet Yellen, current vice chairwoman of the Federal Reserve, to head the agency. This puts her at odds with those within the White House, including allegedly President Obama, who back Larry Summers to chair the Fed, although she has not officially opposed Summers.
Thus far, there has been no nomination, just mainstream media rumors of the White House tilting in favor of Summers.
According to an article in the Boston Globe on August 8, Warren openly mocked Summers in 2009 at Reagan National Airport:
Tim (Geithner) and Larrys whole plan is just like Argentina in the 1980s, Warren told author Ron Suskind in September 2009, while he was working on Confidence Men, a book on the aftermath of the financial collapse. There was this giant hole marked Banks and the government just dumped money in that hole, as much as they had, while they lied about it. Thats what Larry thinks: that the US is Argentina!
While Warren and Suskind were waiting at a terminal in Washingtons Reagan National Airport, Warren began to sing, Dont Cry for Me, Argentina. Several started to applaud, and she modified the verse, with Summers in the role of Eva Peron.
Why not? Warren said with a laugh. He might understand things better as a woman.

(17,796 posts)I don't like the idea of Summers back in.
She comes with a snarky sense of humor on top of being smart, savvy and has great media presence? Watch out 2016

(30,439 posts)Wall Street wants Yellen, not Summers, as next Fed chief
Wall Street overwhelmingly believes President Obama will and should pick Janet Yellen to be the next chairman of the Federal Reserve, according to a survey.
Preliminary results of the CNBC Fed Survey for July show 70 percent of the 40 participants who responded believe Obama will pick Yellen, currently, the Fed's vice chair, to replace current Chairman Ben Bernanke, whose term is up in January.
Just 25 percent believe it will be the former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers.

(27,315 posts)Yellen. 20 people becomes overwhelmingly?

(30,439 posts)This one seems legit and makes sense. You would think Wall Street wants to keep the status quo. Yellen will do the same as Bernanke.
I don't like how Warren backs Yellen. She's a Bernanke clone
Frankly I don't want either Yellen or Summers.

(55,981 posts)join in discussion other than those defending Obama or attacking perceived Obama enemies?
Have you no opinions on the TPP, XL Pipeline, how about fracking? Larry Summers http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014560337
Here's an excellent discussion on water, but not one single Obama defender in the discussion. Why is that? Is there a common agenda?

(55,981 posts)"Democrat" in your name. Who are you trying to convince? Yourself?
Seems to me that those here that refuse to identify their principles (what are you afraid of) and refuse to discuss the issues of the day, may not meet the "politically liberal" requirement for this sight.
Why dont you discuss issues of the day? Afraid to without White House talking points?

(5,279 posts)...28 out of 40 people thought Janet Yellen is likely Pres. Obama's top choice, and perhaps the best choice. Okay, but the sample group included traders, economists, and strategists. Any of whom might favor regulation for whatever reasons. So, the automatic assumption that Yellen will not be effective is somewhat flawed.

(27,315 posts)the other ones, starting by Sherrod Brown who circulated the letter.
It is sad to see that the media need to put this as a personal story and imply payback (he did not support her so she does not support him).

(12,448 posts)he doesn't know wtf he's talking about and has been wrong his entire life.
Senator Warren has the temerity to point it out and call him on his BS, so he has used his position to fight her every step along the way. Unfortunately for him, he is an idiot and she's a dedicated genius. Think of the shrub, but being from a family several steps down the ladder, that's Summers.
Now, if we could just get a President that isn't afraid to admit reality and who actually wants to work for the greater good, it would be a great step in the right direction.

(2,672 posts)is the popular choice, of course Obama will nominate Summers. It's not what we want, it's not who we want, it's who and what the PTB want.
