Kasich calls ethics investigation ‘smoke and politics’

MIDDLETOWN —

Ohio Gov. John Kasich was brief Thursday afternoon when addressing questions about alleged ethics violations of six JobsOhio board members as unveiled by an investigation of this newspaper.

Democrats are calling for an ethics investigation of Kasich and JobsOhio, the nonprofit funded with bond proceeds, state money and private donations. This newspaper’s investigation found that six of nine JobsOhio Board members have direct financial ties to companies that have received tax credits and other help from the state since 2011, the year Kasich took office.

It was also unveiled in the investigation that JobsOhio helped arrange for tax credits for two subsidiaries of Columbus-based Worthington Industries, where Kasich served as a director from 2001 and 2010 and which made campaign contributions to him.
