-Georgians across party lines believe in creationism over evolution. The overall numbers are 53/29- it's 70/17 with Republicans, 43/33 among Democrats, and 46/40 with independents.
-PPP's newest Georgia poll finds that Hillary Clinton would have a decent shot at winning the state if there was an election today. She leads Rand Paul, who's led our most recent national GOP polling, 48/43. She also has a 47/44 advantage on Paul Ryan, a 47/43 one on Newt Gingrich, and a 51/38 one over Sarah Palin. She ties Jeb Bush at 45, and the only Republican with an advantage over her is Chris Christie at 44/42. She could make Georgia a swing state in 2016.
-Georgia voters are still strongly opposed to gay marriage- only 32% support it with 60% against. But even there you can see the wheels turning- last year we found 27% of voters in the state supportive and 65% opposed. Voters under 30 support it by a 56/31 marriage.
-73% of Georgians support expanded background checks for gun purchases to 19% who are opposed. There's bipartisan support for this gun legislation with 89% of Democrats, 65% of independents, and 59% of Republicans supporting it.

Background checks are supported by 73% of Georgians (a red state); even be a majority of Georgia republicans.
It is sad that a plurality of state Democrats believe in creationism over evolution, but at least it it not by the whopping majority (70%) of republicans.

(10,103 posts)1. It really bothers me that, in the 21 century, we still have people who believe in creationism.

(13,408 posts)4. Those creationism numbers speak to the wretched educational system in GA
I wish politicians would speak to that instead of speaking about education in relation to privatization and union busting.
