15 Things Americans Would Know if There Were a "Liberal Media"

1. Where the jobs went.

Outsourcing (or offshoring) is a bigger contributor to unemployment in the U.S. than laziness.

2. Upward wealth redistribution and/or inequality.

In 2010, 20 percent of the people held approximately 88 percent of the net worth in the U.S. The top one percent alone held 35 percent of all net worth.

3. ALEC.

If there was a corporate organization that drafted laws and then passed them on to legislators to implement, wouldn't you think the "liberal" media would report on them?

4. The number of people in prison.

Which country in the world has the most people in prison?

my shiny hiney!

The United States has the most people in prison by far of any country in the world. With 5 percent of the world’s population, we have 25 percent of the world’s prisoners – 2.3 million criminals. China with a population 4 times our size is second with 1.6 million people in prison.

TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT!!

We're either enslaved or imprisoned, with very few exceptions. And television continues to give us a vicarious experience of the 'lifestyles of the rich and famous.' (Gotta keep the plebes happy!)

So, see, it's not evil politics, just good business. No doubt they have lobbyists trying to create new laws you can violate just so they can increase their prison population. You didn't just spit on the sidewalk, did you? More profit for the private prisons!

the right started "working the refs" on the so-called liberal media in the early to mid 1970s.

6. The media is liberal if defined as "relating to liberalism."

Liberalism, as in, "a theory in economics emphasizing individual freedom from restraint and usually based on free competition, the self-regulating market, and the gold standard." Assuming 90% of US media exists to make a profit, then they are indeed acting in a liberal manner.

It's precisely this interpretation of being liberal that made me stop calling myself a liberal and start describing myself as a progressive. I don't want there to be any ambiguity.

turned up with a think-tank called "the progressive policy institute."

And it's neo-liberal members called themselves "progressives."

Which is why I simply call myself a leftist these days.

10. The sad thing about this article..
Fri Aug 9, 2013, 01:27 PM
Aug 2013

..is that 12 of the 15 unreported stories are "unreported" because BOTH dominant Political parties agree 100% on the policies that produce these results.
If there was ANY disagreement between the leadership of our Two parties,
THAT would Make the News, and be an ISSUE for The Debates,
but there isn't any disagreement. There is total alignment.

With the exception of:
#8 Gerrymandering.
#9 The number of bills blocked by Republicans in Congress.
and
#10 The Citizens' United Supreme Court decision.
...there is bi-partisan approval on the rest of the list.

To hear ANYTHING about the above issues, one had to be lucky enough to get a channel that carried the 3rd party debates (RT, FSTV, Current),
otherwise....NOTHING.

This article could be re-titled,
[font size=4]15 things you would know
if America had a Political Party that believed these things were important.

Almost all the media is corporate owned so therefore it's conservative. And the right has Faux and hundreds of RW hate radio stations. In addition, almost all television talking heads seem obsessed with having equal time between the left and the right. But it isn't the left versus the right. Talking heads are giving sanity equal time with insanity. Their jobs as 'journalists' is to report the truth, not allow a sane person to tell the truth and then give equal time to someone who is insane and lying.

With the very wealthy buying more and more media outlets expect the media to be driven even more to the extreme right until objectivity is a distant memory.
