Your mission for the day is to go out and do one act of random kindess to better the world for someone. It doesn't have to be as expensive as buying new tires; small kindnesses sometimes cause huge results.

(2,208 posts)...with my girlfriend. From Buffalo to San Francisco.
We got lots of rides, and people were all very nice.
One truck driver took us from Fort Smith AR, all the way to Albuquerque.
We stopped at a truck stop along the way, and my girlfriend and I had no money.
We said "Thanks for the ride, we'll just hitch another ride from someone else who can take us a little further."
He was like, "No. You both come inside and I'm gonna buy you each the Blue Plate Special with the works."
My girlfriend was nervous, because she thought that this meant that he was gonna ask her for a blowjob or something later on, but we ate anyway. He bought a bunch of drinks and snacks for all of us as we were leaving and we all got back in the truck.
We got to Albuquerque and he had to unload his truck so we thanked him for the ride and for the food. He said "Look, that food wasn't free. You will find yourselves in a situation where you can do something similar for someone else, even if it's years from now. That's the cost of those Blue Plate Specials."
I've paid it forward a number of times already, and today would be a great day to do something else like that for someone...

(857 posts)if everyone did things like this.
The first couple of years after my father died (I was nine at the time) the only way we had turkey for TG and Xmas was because the church in the small town we lived in gave us one. For the last ten years my wife and I have donated two dozen turkeys and spend several hours packing boxes at the local food charity. I plan to do this for the rest of my life.
