I am so tired of the negative on everything.

This is not about anyone or any group or me or you.. But late last night, I realized I do not function well in the negative. I can work for change for anything as long as I am in a positive frame of mind that things can be accomplished.

So all things considered, I am going to try and pull out all that is positive and see what can be done on my little piece of the world to move things in the right direction.

I may live in Steve Kings district, but I do not have to succumb to the hopeless, we cannot do anything about this because so this area is so so off the charts right.

Even in the most right wing (not nut jobs, there is no way you can get past their prejudices and preconceptions) I can find a place to move people to look at things from a more rounded point of view

2014 is going to be huge. I am all about the state elections now. This is where all the activity is going on.

Wish us luck.. I wish you guys luck in your 2014 elections.

that what appears to be, is not at all organic. The negativity that you are experiencing is no more real as the 2009 townhall out-rage ... it's just many have determined they can profit from creating that environment on Democratic supporting websites.

DU will be back to its "Normal state" a couple days after the DU powers determine "election season" has begun and start enforcing the ToS.

Stay Strong!

Is there a moderate to at least primary him? I think if something like that happened, a lot of people would open their eyes and see just how messed up this guy really is. And as far as the state elections are concerned, we REALLY need to not only replace branstad, but make sure he never runs again. And I think this "speedgate" thing may bring him down. People have had enough. I'm positive of that.

I know the general area you are in because my husband grew up in that part of Iowa. Now we live in another mad district in Texas represented? by John Carter. Could play poker with some of these guys and always lose because they always cheat. But on the plus side northwest Iowa and south central Texas are neat places and most of the people are not crazy or far right wing. We have a good number of liberal Democrats in several counties.

you no doubt have some groups out there with a little sense and can keep the spark going. All the better if you can get rid of him next year, but even if you can't you have to keep hope alive that your message gets out there.

Even if it seems to be getting out there too slowly, stopping it is not an alternative.

like reducing income inequality, or upholding privacy rights, the relentless drumbeat of it leads to depression, alienation, disengagement, and failure on all levels.

If you don't stay in the game you lose, but if you can only keep yourself in the game by becoming consumed with anger and hatred and distrust, you lose.

Art Pope took over North Carolina by concentrating on local elections and state elections. He, as well as the Koch Brothers and their organizations, poured millions of dollars into the campaigns of selected John Birch Society leaning candidates. They poured more money into North Carolina to gerrymander the districts. ALEC written laws have been pushed through the state legislature and now we have Moral Monday demonstrations that are getting bigger and bigger by the week. The protesters are being arrested. . .Hopefully, people in the state will get out the vote in local and state gov't so they can turn the state back around.

There has been an insidious campaign going on for years that finally surfaced with the election of Barack Obama because the racists in this country, the KKK, the white supremacist groups, the militia groups, etc. have now fully launched into the program of destroying Obama without understanding that they are being used and manipulated to systemically destroy our country.

Although Ayn Rand and her Objectivist acolytes are certainly part of the mix, I think that the Koch Brothers, Art Pope, and other beyond belief wealthy individuals are more dangerous to our country and its people. Unfortunately, the snowball has picked up steam and grown larger as it has come barreling towards us.

Our country needs each and every one of us to get involved. Regardless of which "side" people are on, there are still areas of mutual agreement. We need to work within these areas of agreement towards a better place.

I do wish you luck! I wish all of us luck!

I agree that we should be as positive as possible, and we should not be negative just for the sake of being negative. But we should not stick our heads in the sand and pretend that everything is wine and roses just because that makes us feel better.

for your good thoughts and encouragement. It is town-hall season and our representative King is in all his glory here. Unfortunately our local paper the Sioux City Journal is just a little right of Fox News.. We just get pounded with the right wing talking points.. even our local news (TV) is always more chipper reporting the Republican points of view.

I know a lot of wonderful people who feel like voting is not worth it. It is sometimes distressful trying to get everyone motivated. Just how it is when you are in a majority red district.

But the rest of Iowa.. goes moderate to left the farther east you go. We are not a total loss

And keep plugging. Steve King is a vomit-inducing piece of work but here in PA, we know that our Governor Corbett is the same and so as you note - local local local - and we need to work at putting both of them out of a job.

Ugh Steve King is out there on top of bs mountain. If it makes you feel better I follow him on twitter to call him out on all his twisted nonsense. Granted it usually gets me a few crazy talkers that end up placing me on some form or other of a Tea Party Watch List but it keeps me entertained.

I'm stuck in crazy Joe Wilson's district (the idiot that yelled "you lie" to Obama. So I've got some work to do as well.

Only one or two Representatives with crazy talk but those types sure need to be targeted. John Culberson is in my district and jumps right in with the TP. The House is a mess, they don't have a strong leader and the crazy TP movement is ruining about 80 members. We need the grassroots campaign which has brought some good results before.
