Texans Call For Boycott Of Retailers That Fought Wage Bill
The bill was vetoed in June after winning bipartisan approval in the legislature. Its sponsors included state Sen. Wendy Davis, , "if a woman didn't discover [a pay imbalance with her male colleagues] within her first 180 days of employment she has no cause of action in the State of Texas."
Gov. Rick Perry offered no explanation for the veto but this week, the that Perry had received "letters against the measure from the Texas Retailers Association and five of its members," including the two companies.

Costco has publicly demonstrated a different model.
In general, though, fight the centralization of money.
Use local banks, credit unions, retailers. Diminish the centralization of money and you diminish the centralization of politics.

(1,754 posts)That is disappointing, I had always heard they were one of the better companies in terms of labor relations. My choices here for groceries are Kroger and Wal-Mart.

(35,296 posts)Moreover, Kroger is a grocery store. I'd only get back-to-school stuff there on an ad hoc basis. "Oh, forgot the protractors, but while I'm here picking up milk I'll get a dozen."
Spent close to $400 Friday on back-to-school supplies. Perhaps $10 was for back-to-school stuff for the Igelito.
As for the "if it's unnecessary, why veto it?" comment ... Huh? IMHO at this point there are enough laws on the books, too frequently unnecessary and unenforced, any one of which can be resurrected at inauspicious times and spun to say something insane. There should be a mandated maximum number of characters allowed in the set of laws in every state. Any new law should require the elimination of one or more old, out-dated laws to not exceed the maximum character count.
