Maybe instead of griping about how much money X spends on Y people should start thinking outside the box about ways to do something creative or useful to make some extra money.
Here are two examples from Etsy (not mine but great examples of using recycled fabric to make art to wear):
The Katwise Sweater Coat below made from upcycled sweaters sells for $600 and the handbag is $200.

(9,761 posts)For me, as I see wealth concentrated in fewer and fewer hands (400 families I think have a very large share of the wealth?) I see in my mind millions of us showing our skills and our wares to those very few extremely rich people.
And I see the very few rich saying, "you may live to eat today, if you give me your kidney..."
And one lucky person in a million selling a handbag. All of us desperate to sell to fewer and fewer wealthy, as the middle class disappears and only the obscenely rich and starving poor remain.
It reminds me of The Good Earth...when wealth is piled up in too few hands, sometimes change comes suddenly.
I think of the desperate poor in Egypt, trying to sell small trinkets to we rich tourists. A lucky one or two of the hundred or so sell and can eat that day. The rest go hungry because when there are too many sellers and too few buyers, that is what happens.
You might as well advise people to stop complaining and instead buy a lottery ticket.

What you are basically saying is: We should stop criticizing the biggest flaws in our economic system because you are benefiting from them.

(28,979 posts)I just started selling on Etsy. And I am also asking high prices. It is called capitalism and even liberals are entitled to try and get rich, right? Of course, I also barter and give stuff away when I feel like it.

We need to quit making excuses for this outrageous income inequality.
And STOP making excuses for Oprah Winfrey. She has nothing in common with the rest of us.
The OP is insulting in so many ways, I can't even begin to count.
By the way, "wealthy" ISN'T rich, let alone billionaire rich.
The term "wealthy" sugarcoats what these parasites really are.

(43,049 posts)you're not out there destroying the oligarchy and transferring billions all by your lil ol' self.
For one thing, many fortunes started with small ventures like these, although if you ever do get rich you can count on some of them to jump all over you as the 1%. No, you can't win with some people.
Small business is part of the soul of a free people. Vision, hard work, talent... All that stuff goes into a successful business and you may or may not make a good living off of it, but we're all better off because people like you make the leap.
Good luck to you.

(402 posts)I wish they would spend more, in fact them not spending enough is the problem its why we had 70%-90% taxes on them at one point, they just don't spend enough so the wealth concentrates and society collapses.
