(80,708 posts)I mean, the rules around criminal defense and courtroom evidence are designed for people who HAVEN'T been accused of breaking the law. Once someone says you've smoked a joint, fuck it, you might as well just be dragged off to the fucking dungeon, no trial.

Of course most large enterprises have been doing everything heavily encrypted from the get go. Some patents are worth billions. But it isn't only the patents worth billions that matter, it reaches down to mom&pop entrepreneurial efforts: if they might compete with inside players, if knowing their ideas and plans would be of advantage, they are targets.
In fact privacy goes to the root of our economic/social being, and giving it up because some leader rules under a 'D' rather than an 'R' is stone cold foolish.
