a lease, can the landlord evict just one of them. Landlord is uncle of wife, says husband has to go, she and kids can stay. Nothing illegal was done to cause eviction. Also it was not a legal eviction notice, just word of mouth from uncle. Can he be forced to leave his kids?

The major fly in the ointment, besides the fact that he doesn't want to disappear out of everybody's life just because the wife and the uncle say so, is the 14 year old daughter. If there isn't a strong paper trail on all the things she's done, he needs to start one NOW, contacting the police every time she runs away, shoplifts, ditches school, or whatever. That will help him gain at least joint custody of his children when the time comes.
In the meantime, he needs to find a job to pay for those family counseling sessions that bunch so desperately needs.
