air force academy gets its first female superintendent
(it will be interesting to see whether she is willing, or able, to do anything about the ongoing sexual abuse scandal there)
Air Force Academy to get 1st female superintendent l ![]() Maj. Gen. Michelle Johnson AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force Academy is getting its first female superintendent. Maj. Gen. Michelle Johnson formally takes the academy's top job Monday. She replaces Lt. Gen. Michael Gould, who is retiring. Johnson has been nominated for promotion to lieutenant general, the customary rank for academy superintendent. She's a 1981 graduate of the academy, where she was the school's first female cadet wing commander and first female Rhodes scholar. She is a command pilot with more than 3,600 flight hours in large cargo planes and refueling tankers. Johnson is the second woman appointed to command a service academy, after Rear Adm. Sandra Stosz became superintendent of the Coast Guard Academy in 2011. Johnson is the first woman to be superintendent at any of the three best-known academies, Army, Navy and Air Force. http://www.krdo.com/news/air-force-academy-to-get-1st-female-superintendent/-/417220/21427800/-/o7gm73z/-/index.html

1. Excellent!
Maybe she'll also clean out the fundamentalist Christian coercion used on Cadets, too. That is another serious problem there.

3. There are many issues. And a lot of them begin
with the patriarchal nature of the military, in general. That's the thing that makes this appointment so important. I wish her every success.

11. Is the eagle statue still there?
Old MI lore: there is a bronze statue of an eagle at DLI Monterey, and all the old spooks claim that if a virgin were ever to graduate from DLI that eagle would fly away.
