'No Muslim parking' signs spark outrage

Houston - New signs posted outside a mosque in Spring Branch, Texas, have sparked outrage from Muslims nationwide.

In black letters, the signs reads, "No Muslim parking in the Westview Shopping Center. Your car will be towed."

The posters lined the street near the El Farouq Mosque, where Muslims heading to worship services said they were were offended.

"I feel sorry for the person who wrote it," Ahmed Hassan told CNN affiliate KPRC. "This is what comes to mind because obviously he has a lot of hate."

People are trying to imply they meant no mosque parking.

I don't buy that. There are several ways of saying that such as "Mall parking only" or "customer parking only." Anyone with half a brain could see how this was offensive.

I think this was a deliberate and the person who put it was counting on people thinking they meant one of the above excuses, when they really did mean no muslim parking. It is a cynical ploy to deflect any possible accusations of islamophobia had they got caught.

The intent is clearly to send a message beyond a restriction on parking access.

The message is clear whoever wrote that doesn't like Muslims too much.

10. Look up false equivalency

Some asshole putting up a sign is in no way equivalent to a country passing a national law that makes it illegal to even advocate for gay rights.

I shouldn't have to even post that on a website that is supposed to be for liberals, progressives, and democrats of all stripes.

Seriously though, I hope that sign has more to do with ignorance and less to do with hate. I suspect the person who posted it is probably old and still calls Asian people "Orientals" or black people "coloreds". Age and ignorance don't excuse it, but it takes the edge off of pure hatred and places it in the ignorant old bigot category...for me anyway.

I know three shopping plazas that do not allow cars to park there and all three are next to Anglican or Methodist churches.
The truth is that when there are funerals or other events there church folks fill up the car parks and shoppers have no where to park. I think a better sign would 'Parking only for shoppers'.
