...in regards to the Patriot Act and NSA spying.
I'm sure there are others that will have a different perspective of the events that led us to where we are today?
But, I recall that we armed and supported Osama Bin Laden when we were helping the Mujahadeen overthrow the Soviets in Afghanistan in the 1980's, when Reagan was President.
I also remember how Bin Laden and others of the Islamic faith were very angry and revengeful of the fact that American troops were stationed in Saudi Arabia and the site of the most holy of places in their religion. And they used this as a recruting tool to recruit "radicals" to attack the American "devils".
Although there were other events and signals of things to come, the attack of 9/11/2001 was carried out by mostly Saudi Arabian nationals, our allies at the time. There were 19 of them that were identified with the attack of 9/11. Nineteen of them was hardly an army but enough to pass the Patriot Act and to declare a "war on terror" whereby you were "either with us or against us".
This eventually led to the invasion of Afghanistan and the sovereign nation of Iraq and the de-stabilization of the entire Middle East. Perhaps others recall this differently??
Then we had Bush and Cheney going around and over our Constitution and the Geneva Convention with torture and rendition and spying illegally on Americans without warrants, which they later got the Congress to make it "legal" after the fact.
If we fast forward to the present debate over the NSA and the spying on American citizens, we can see where it all began. We should ask ourselves, is it all an over reach by our government? Is it anything more than fear and paranoia, sold to the American people by the intelligence organizations and the defense industries that have our country by the balls and have no intent of ever loosening their grip on a scared and fearful citizenry?
