(31,849 posts)There clearly is an anti-government thing going on ... but when you take down governments, what does that leave? Corporations!
I, by far, trust governments more than corporations.

(62,325 posts)their economy. Iceland, unlike the US went after the Crooked Bankers and the corrupt Politicians who enabled them, rather than Julian Assange and Wikileaks. They arrested the Bankers, kicked out and arrested their corrupt politicians, and unlike the rest of Europe and the US who chose to 'look forward' from Wall St Criminals' their were able to get their economy back on track and regulate their banks.
Apparently Americans didn't realize that Wikileaks had exposed many criminals and corrupt politicians around the world before they released anything from the US..
It was the leaks on the Banks though that really got them in trouble with this country. You cannot go up against the Banks here. Their exposures of Iceland's Crooked Banks and their promise to release more on Big Banks here instilled terror in the hearts of Wall St Criminals and that was when the campaign to silence them began.

But be that as it may ... I, by far, trust governments (read: representative governance) more than corporations that have no public accountability.

(62,325 posts)I will be more than happy to say so.
As for trusting Corps and/or Government, you seem stuck on the notion despite the many times I have explained my position on both to you, that I 'trust' Corporations. Lol, it IS funny.
Put it this way, I do not trust Governments who depend on untrustworthy Corporations to get themselves elected.
Any alliance between Government and Corporations is dangerous to a democracy. That is where we are right now. Corporate influence, money, has corrupted our system of government.
Neither can now be trusted. Corporations write our laws. Who allows that to happen? Congress. Corporations run our elections, no one who is not backed by enormous amounts of money, will not make it in today's America. That is the sad fact. So, we the people are deprived of possible great Progressive Candidates because Corporations don't like Progressive Democrats.
I trust neither.

(24,979 posts)Guaranteed. Everyone on the Internet has an FB data profile. They know you through cookies, through tracking you by like buttons, through your associations with people on FB, etc.
So what's the point? FB should also be limited, just like the NSA should be.

(62,325 posts)telephone co., internet server, fb et al, all have Privacy Statements that you get to read before you sign up. NONE of them say 'we will be sharing your data with the Government'.
For the record, I am not on FB because I never trusted them due to their demand for personal info. They were the first such social media corp that demanded so much info before signing up. So, I passed. Twitter operated the same way most other Internet forums operated, you could choose what to reveal or not.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)I'm thinking you are missing a very important point ... with the government, at least we have the illusion of democratic control, though our elected representatives ... on the other hand, and seemingly it's okay, we have been told repeatedly that we have no control of corporations.
Whom do you fear more?
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)Corporations. But we still have a semblance of a judicial system, both Civil and Criminal. A contract broken in the Corporate World, can be taken to a Civil Court.
What is your recourse when a Politician makes promises then after s/he is elected, breaks those promises?
Many people have sued Corporations for violations of their agreements with them and won. So, there is a monitory incentive for a Corporation to be careful about such violations.
Politicians otoh, have no such incentive. They are free to break all the promises they make with no consequences.
It is a practical matter, not a matter of trust or a matter of morals. It is knowing your options.
Eg, I read Verizon's Privacy agreement to their Rep when I called to cancel them as a result of the revelations of spying on their customers. They did NOT say 'we have a right to do that'. They DENIED IT. They KNOW they will be facing lawsuits, in fact they are.
Five lawsuits have already been filed against Verizon so far, with many more expected.
So, no, it isn't a matter of trust, it is a matter of knowing that there are consequences for Corps who violate agreements.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)Apparently trust corporations more than democracy.
Elections.
Are you kidding? You at once argue that government is controled by corporations and the courts (government) will protect you from corporations. Does that make any sense to you?
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)be used to hold one of those entities accountable.
The law has no jurisdiction over politicians who lie to get themselves elected. Maybe it should.
You are confusing 'trust' with a reality that is pretty obvious. I have tools with Verizon which I can use due their violation of their own Privacy Agreement with me. They published that agreement in order to help their business. They violated it. Now they can be held accountable.
I have no recourse with a politician who breaks an agreement in order to get my vote. It's simply my loss.
If you think that reading a Privacy Agreement to make sure that you are willing to agree with the practices of a business means you 'trust' them, then I can't help you.
I trust neither, which is why I read Privacy Agreements, Corporations or Politicians anymore. I used to, but not any more. But with one I can get accountability.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)No tools to hold politicians accountable? Then, that is wholly inconsistent with the, literally, hundreds of posts where you claim to be "holding this President's feet to the fire."
So that begs the question: do you believe what you are writing in this thread ... or on the other 99% of the threads where you take President Obama and Democrats to task?
Which leads to several other questions ...
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)produce at least ten such posts to jog my memory?
Let me ask you, are you seriously claiming that criticizing policies on the internet is 'holding them accountable' in the same way that taking a Corporation to court for breach of contract is??
Are you serious?
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)you have no memory of "holding this Presiden'ts feet to the fire" (... Really?
That basic level of dishonesty means we have nothing further to discuss.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)What this means is that YOU have nothing further to discuss. Hurling accusations with nothing to back them up generally does leave one with not much more to say when asked to prove those allegations.
Thank you.

cos I'm living my life like a good homosapien
But all around me everybodys multiplying
Till theyre walking round like flies man
So I'm no better than the anI'mals sitting in their cages
In the zoo man
cos compared to the flowers and the birds and the trees
I am an ape man
I think I'm so educated and I'm so civilized
cos I'm a strict vegetarian
But with the over-population and inflation and starvation
And the crazy politicians
I dont feel safe in this world no more
I dont want to die in a nuclear war
I want to sail away to a distant shore
and make like an ape man
I'm an ape man, I'm an ape ape man
I'm an ape man I'm a king kong man I'm ape ape man
I'm an ape man
Cos compared to the sun that sits in the sky
Compared to the clouds as they roll by
Compared to the bugs and the spiders and flies
I am an ape man
In mans evolution he has created the cities and
The motor traffic rumble, but give me half a chance
And I'd be taking off my clothes and living in the jungle
cos the only time that I feel at ease
Is swinging up and down in a coconut tree
Oh what a life of luxury to be like an ape man
I'm an ape, I'm an ape ape man, I'm an ape man
I'm a king kong man, I'm a voo-doo man
I'm an ape man
I look out my window, but I cant see the sky
cos the air pollution is fogging up my eyes
I want to get out of this city alive
And make like an ape man
Come and love me, be my ape man girl
And we will be so happy in my ape man world
I'm an ape man, I'm an ape ape man, I'm an ape man
I'm a king kong man, I'm a voo-doo man
I'm an ape man
I'll be your tarzan, you'll be my jane
I'll keep you warm and youll keep me sane
And well sit in the trees and eat bananas all day
Just like an ape man
I'm an ape man, I'm an ape ape man, I'm an ape man
I'm a king kong man, I'm a voo-doo man
I'm an ape man.
