2. Even if it was just metadata, a staggering amount of information can be drawn from that.

The fact that they're taking it as far as content doesn't mean the metadata would be okay or trivial, though if it was just that it would at least be less horrific...

Because Lavabit is just an EMAIL service provider. So, if they weren't getting content of emails, why bother giving Lavabit a NSL?
