"Several teams of scientists warn that we can expect a rise of 4oC within decades. A rapid rise in temperature is likely to make the areas where most people now live uninhabitable, leaving humans, mammals and plants little on no time to migrate to cooler areas. The image below (edited from New Scientist) shows that the currently inhabited part of the planet would become largely uninhabitable with a global temperature rise of 4oC."
"Above image gives some suggestions as to action that can be taken, such as reforestation and construction of clean energy facilities. The image also shows that habitable areas may be restricted to the edges of the world where there's little sunshine. A specific area can become uninhabitable due to sea level rises or heat stress. Humans simply cannot survive prolonged exposure to temperatures exceeding 95°F (35°C), explains Steven Sherwood. An area can also become uninhabitable due to recurring wildfires, floods, droughts, storms and further extreme weather events that cause erosion, desertification, crop losses and shortages of fresh water. (2,424 posts)I spoil the shit out of her.
I want her to cling to fond memories when her world becomes hell.
There are times I want to make like "Sarah Conner" and prepare her for the terrible future. I can't bring myself to expose her to the truth yet. Let her enjoy her teenage years before I reveal the great burden that she must endure.
Hopefully I can stake her a claim in a high, cool altitude before that day comes.

The current Powers That Be are creating (for THEIR fun and profit) a dystopia for future generations.

(27,630 posts)Apparently they're planning to roll with the climate changes and the catastrophes to nature. The uber-wealthy will arrange comfortable, safe homes for themselves in cooler climates, far from the equator.
But, what are they going to do about all those billions of non-elite schmucks who can't afford a survival plan?
I'm assuming the answer is nothing, or, proactively helping the masses of poor people aound the world to just die.

(3,183 posts)' Developed (and some developing) countries must cut back their carbon dioxide emissions by a very large percentage (50% to 90%) by 2020 to immediately precipitate a cooling of the Earth and its crust. If this is not done the earthquake frequency and methane emissions in the Arctic will continue to grow exponentially leading to our inexorable demise between 2031 to 2051."
· Geoenginering must be used immediately as a cooling method in the Arctic to counteract the effects of the methane buildup in the short term. However these methods will lead to further pollution of the atmosphere in the long term and will not solve the earthquake induced Arctic methane buildup which is going to lead to our annihilation."

(27,630 posts)I am truly sorry to sound negative, but honestly, I don't think enough will be done to get the earth off the path of climate destruction we are on. I hope I am wrong.
Not only that, I have some real gloom and doom ideas of what is in store for (#1) the brown poor people in warm climates, especially. They will be the first groups of people to have a bunch of major catastrophes hit them, without anyone doing much to save them. Those are already expendable lives, but when the climate gets really bad, I predict their lives will be seen as a burden to the elites and there will likely be measures taken to hasten their deaths.

(8,267 posts)the "beginning" of the end, insofar as we've begun acknowledging the crisis, AND we're identifying the positive feedback loops that render the anticipated outcome inevitable. I think it'll happen faster than anyone has predicted.
