(14,120 posts)I have no clue who/where people are getting it! I have heard people say "My friend got hit by this and now they can't pay and will go to jail!" all over.
It is nerve racking and I have no way to get them to listen to me. They rather listen to FOX.

(885 posts)Your tax penalty for not having insurance is paid on your taxes at the end of the year. If your taxable income is below 133% of the FLP you are exempt from this tax.
2014 = $95 per person per year or 1% of your Income
2015 = $325 per person per yearor 2% of your Income
2016 = $695 per person per yearor 2.5% of your Income
2017= Tax Penalty will increase by the rate of inflation going forward, or 2.5% of your Income
The total penalty for the taxable year cannot exceed the national average of the annual premiums of a bronze-level health insurance plan offered through the health insurance marketplaces.
Health insurance plans will provide proof of coverage for their customers.

(45,851 posts)That's the way American society works, far more stick than carrot, we are the world leaders in punitive imprisonment.
Lots of Americans are terrified of the IRS and getting audited.
The administration has depended on the fairness and accuracy of the M$M to get the word out on the details of PPACA, in retrospect that seems to have been a tactical error at best.

(509 posts)of the penalties. The IRS is not allowed to use their usual methods. If you don't get insurance they can subtract the penalties from a future federal tax refund. However, for low income filers they sre not even allowed to do that.

(6,234 posts)You don't have to buy books for your kids. You don't have to own a car or a refridgerator. You don't have to even buy food for yourself, you can legally starve if you like. But you damn well do have to buy insurance from the companies currently fucking the American people over.
It doesn't matter if you want it or cannot afford it. It doesn't matter how worthless it is or how little it pays out. It doesn't matter how bad the company treats you or how little they do to earn your business. It doesn't even matter if the policy never pays out a single claim. None of that matters because thanks to Obamacare YOU STILL HAVE TO BUY IT. It's the law.
Now right now there are few (if any) penalties and a whole bunch of promises about how awesome this rape is going to be. But know this, the penalties are not going to remain non-existent. Unless it's repealed.
