http://www.salon.com/2013/08/14/noonan_obama_should_defend_blackface_rodeo_clown/The vibrations have spoken once agains through their instrument at the Wall Street Journal, columnist Peggy Noonan, who today advises President Obama to defend the Missouri State Fair rodeo clown who this weekend wore an Obama mask before getting run down by a bull for cheering fans. The states Republican lieutenant governor condemned it, state fair officials called it inappropriate, and the head of the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association resigned over the controversy, but Noonan totally understands why the crowd would cheer the trouncing of a president in effigy, because: Obamacare.
This is the reason many people dont like ObamaCare. Its also part of why people wind up making fun of the president at state fairs, she writes today, linking to a story about disability rights advocates raising concerns about the health care law. On the blackface rodeo clown thing, everyone should breathe deep and calm down, she adds.
In fact, Obama should interrupt his vacation to comfort the afflicted clown, because thatd be super classy, Noon writes:
It never fails to amaze how some confuse the plain text of the First Amendment to assume free speech means the ability to say or do anything without criticism, rather than be free of legal persecution. Who else should Obama issue press releases defending? The Westboro Baptist Church? The KKK? Sure, they all deserve the right to free speech, but that doesnt mean the president needs to issue an official statement defending them. And what does it say about Noonan that she thinks this Rodeo clown of all people deserves a rhetorical presidential pardon?

(23,340 posts)this says it all:
(Obama) would never do it. He gives every sign of being a person who really believes he shouldnt be made fun of, and if he is its probably racially toned, because why else would you make fun of him?
Peggy has been jumping the shark for generations. This is a splendid example.

(27,461 posts)it reminds me of when that asshole reporter said Obama was a "prick". Everyone was talking about the lack of respect, but the problem I had with it was that it was a lie. I watched the presser where Obama was supposedly a prick, and he wasn't.
Same with that part that you excerpt. It's entirely within Obama's nature to do exactly what Noonan says he "would never do". And among Obama's flaws is not a "lack of class." Any honest person would acknowledge that.

(23,664 posts)than making any kind of comment about a fucking rodeo clown.
There's a lot more important things that he needs to get busy on like ending government surveillance of American citizens, ensuring the future of social security, safeguarding women's reproductive rights, prosecuting bush era war criminals, and putting a few Wall Street bank crooks behind bars.
When he gets done doing all that, he can opine about rodeo clowns every frickin day if he wants to.

"The presidential motorcade arrived at the Lake Avenue restaurant shortly after 1 p.m. and Obama hopped out of an SUV, undeterred by a steady rain. He was upbeat and made a point of chit-chatting with customers and restaurant employees as he made his way to the take-out counter.
Im just overwhelmed, said Serena Creary of Natick. I knew he was here (on the island), of course, but I never expected to see him.
