On whether she thinks having an African-American family in the White House has moved the needle.
Absolutely. Children born in the last eight years will only know an African-American man being president of the United States. That changes the bar for all of our children, regardless of their race, their sexual orientation, their gender. It expands the scope of opportunity in their minds. And thats where change happens.

(64,982 posts)The whole point of including "nt" (no text) or "eom" ("end of message" is to considerately let the reader know that the subject line is all there is to the post.
In other words, "nt" (or "eom" indicates that there is no further message in the message box, so the reader shouldn't waste his/her time clicking the message open to read more text that is not there.
By putting "nt" in the message box, you defeat the entire purpose of using the abbreviation.

(5,106 posts)As someone who was still working hard on my arms and legs at her age, I could never achieve anything like it. I'm going out on a limb now, as I'm Caucasian, but the most admirable thing about black women is their comfort with their bodies. Even those more naturally heavy, such as Oprah, with anywhere near her advantages, focus on staying healthy more often than being a slave to the scale. Granted there are as many overweight and sloppy black as white women. The most admirable thing about black men is their lack of judgement (usually) about weight. The nerve of unattractive, pudgy white men such as Rush Limbaugh, criticizing women of any race is what is even more amazing. Long story short: I wish white women would cut themselves the same slack, and white men would go along. Pushing seventy years of life, and knowing many more mixed racial couples in recent years, I still can't believe some of the thoroughly unattractive white men who will comment about a couple where the man is black, and the woman white and somewhat plump, even if lovely, that she must be desperate because HE thought she was too fat. Body types are body types and we have to live with our own, not usually movie-star perfect, but we can do our best. Sorry for the tangent.

She is an amazing woman. Her beauty shines from the inside out.

(176 posts)She and President Obama have that something that people love about them. Classy, yes. But it's more than that. They just have "it." It's not something that can be brought with money from Sheldon Adelson or the Koch brothers. This is a big part of the reason that righties can't stand them, aside from the fact that a black family is in the white house.
