By not removing the 2014 Olympics from Russia, the IOC approves of violence against LGBT community.

This is unacceptable.

IOC: We’ll ban athletes spreading gay “propaganda” at Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) reiterated yesterday that it would ban any Olympic athlete guilty of spreading “propaganda” at the 2014 Winter Olympics to be held in Sochi, Russia next February.

Using the same unfortunate language that is in Russia’s draconian new anti-gay/anti-trans “propaganda” law, the IOC appeared to stand by the decision, reported earlier this week, to ban the LGBT Pride House at this year’s Olympics.

The IOC’s new statement, banning gay “propaganda,” was given to the Washington Blade yesterday.

When China got the Olympics, we didn't claim that meant the IOC was in favoring of imprisoning Falun Gong. The purpose of the Olympics is to bring countries together in a more neutral way, not to endorse everything a host country does.

you can encourage people to boycott them. But it would be an ultra stupid thing for IOC to cancel the Olympics in Sochi, and this can actually be an opportunity for the world to make a very strong statement about support of gay people.

I want the athletes to compete; they've been training for years and deserve to. The IOC did no such thing. Perhaps the propaganda they were talking about was against gays, which would make more sense.

Russia will feel many repercussions from their assholeedness.

An enormous amount of planning and building goes into every Olympics. Just the Olympic villages alone house three thousand people, not to mention accommodations for the thousands of media, foreign dignitaries, and fans. Changing at so late a stage would throw the whole thing into chaos. The winter Olympics in particular are dangerous to the athletes if not carefully planned and executed.

A better alternative is to boycott the Olympics on TV and attendance, boycotting Olympics sponsors, but I don't think moving it is feasible at this point.
