And likely hundreds more will be murdered tomorrow.
Which is worse?
Morsi was a piece of shit. But he wasn't massacring his opposition hundreds of people at a time. You can argue over what a future Morsi regime would have looked like. You can try to justify this new regime as a positive alternative to the Muslim Brotherhood.
The bottom line is we'll never really know if Morsi would have been as bad. And your fears exist now as nothing more than pointless speculation.
Let's talk about what's actually happening RIGHT NOW.
RIGHT NOW we have a military dictatorship committing crimes against humanity, using live ammunition on protesters.
This seems to be the great peril of Western thought. We'd rather watch an anti-Muslim force massacre thousands of people than a Muslim regime maintain control.
We sit fidgeting on the edge of our seats eager for the one moment when a Muslim says the wrong thing or strings together the wrong chain of ideologies and all of a sudden we're the greatest humanitarians in history.
Think of the poor women and children, after all. Think of their lives under Sharia.
Yeah? Well now they won't have to worry about that since they're fucking dead. And their brothers and fathers won't have long to mourn since they'll be killed tomorrow.
Goddamnit this is so wrong.

Look at Syria to see its about our wants, not theirs.

I know we don't want an Islamic theocracy. I agree with that position.
We've not exactly given our support to the new government. I agree with that position, too.
I think that we (the US Gov't) and we (folks here on DU) all want a government that doesn't suck in all possible ways.

(1,044 posts)and cancelling the aid helps us exactly how?
I know it's hard for many to understand, but the U.S. does in fact have interests in the rest of the world. $1.5 billion doesn't make us their rulers.
So tell us - what is the best thing for the U.S. to do in this case?
Gravitycollapse
(8,155 posts)That's not a tiny amount.
The best thing for the US to is to stop funding mass murdering military dictatorships.

I am however sure Egypt's military are grateful to US taxpayers.

(1,044 posts)The point I'm making is that there is no single good side in this battle.
I'm not saying I know what to do.
