"Go Eat a Dick": Budding Politician Thor Lund's Foray into Public Misogyny

"Go Eat a Dick": Budding Politician Thor Lund's Foray into Public Misogyny
By: Natalie San Luis
Burnt Orange Report

Because the Internet isn't already overflowing with privileged white man-children mansplaining how to deal with women, Thor Lund recently penned a blog post describing his mommy issues and pick-up artist tips. (If you think Thor Lund is a hilly region of the Netherlands, you're wrong, but you're not alone. In actuality, he holds the elite title of "former student body president of The University of Texas.&quot

The blog post, titled "What I've learned about Women," is absolutely brimming with sage advice ("Confuse them. Honestly they deserve it&quot and wistful tales of vomiting on Dirty Sixth.

Throughout his post, his offensive remarks are shrouded in paternalistic claims that he loves women. However, Thor talks about loving women the same way I imagine he would talk about loving a fine pair of leather Sperry topsiders or a spunky golden retriever. Women are objects that validate his own self-worth, not individuals with inherent value.

In the first paragraph, Thor weeds out his audience by directing the readers who don't dig hot babes to "go eat a dick and gargle some balls. Then never reproduce, because you are the kind of person that turns into a shitty father."

I had to post this for the headline alone.

the proceeds to suggest doing just that. Fail.

These "pick up guides" are all hilariously full of shit.

It's over-the-top with hyperbole. Sometimes it veers from sarcasm into satire.

His "pick up lines" aren't.

Read with good will and you'll find a lot of self-deprecating humor mixed with satire. The post prefacing the excerpt has the requisite information. When you see stu gov president touted as something auspicious with immediate name recognition, remember ... Nobody cares, and nobody wants to care.

Look with ill will in order to find offense, and you'll certainly find it.

For example, the post is about guys going after girls. But it's clearly transgender-phobic because what heterosexual guy *wouldn't* like to find out that the girl he's gone home with is a man? Guys after guys aren't his audience. Perhaps we think he really should have had a different audience and he contravened our expectations by not writing what we wanted him to write. Meh.

Satire--like self-deprecatory humor--is often lost on people. Listened to a stand-up routine in which the comedienne, intending to be funny but at the same time sort of serious, announced that she had cancer and had just been diagnosed. It was her way of approaching it. That's fine--those who were offended were welcome to leave, but there was no reason to abuse the comedienne. My SIL, who was dying of cancer, would have been completely outraged at the very idea--she'd have felt personally denigrated and insulted because cancer could *never* be associated with humor in any way, shape, or form.

For my mother it was women's rights. She was so serious about them that even if Bella Abzug said something humorous she'd have simply been confused, and if Abzug repeated it my mother would have declared her a traitor against her sex.

For me, it's whole wheat bread. It's a weighty matter and mocking it goes entirely against the grain, undermining the very fiber of civilization.

I could only make it about halfway through the guy's word tsunami.

Beyond that, I do think I detect an attempt at PJ O'Rourke-style commentary on the blogger's part (or what I remember of O'Rourke's style, anyway...it's been a while since I've read anything by him).
