From US Uncut:
Retail company Forever 21 sent this letter to all full time/non-management employees informing them that they will be demoted to part time, they and their families will lose their health and dental benefits, and they will no longer qualify for paid time off. Employees believe the company is punishing them to retaliate against Obamacare.
We were asked to share this by one of our fans, and now we are asking you to do the same. Don't underestimate the power of your SHARE. Two weeks ago, US Uncut was the first place to widely publish McDonald's now notorious budget, and it went viral across mainstream media. Thank you.

(46,081 posts)It won't work. Employees are pissed at their employer, not Obamacare and they don't likely believe that their healthcare and paid sick days will return if Obamacare were repealed. It's gone, forever gone.

Also, Forever 21 proudly bills itself as a Christian company. It must be true, 'cause they put "John 3:16" on their bags. Never mind Whose Benefits Would Jesus Cut?

Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

(8,572 posts)Mainly because I live way out in the BFE. It sounds like some dress shop for "mature women" to buy clothes that are way too young for them to actually be wearing in public - and since I quit dressing like that when I became a forty-something (some time ago now) I wouldn't go there anyway. The name alone is too cute by half for me, so it will be an easy boycott for me to join!

(64 posts)They are the largest community college system in the U.S. They are cutting the hours of their adjunct faculty so that they do not have to pay for health care. They basically came right out and said they were doing it because of the ACA.

Third time in history part-time jobs are exceeding full-time, but it's the largest. Economics and the trend suggests that it may last for another decade or two, at a minimum.
...since the December 2007 start of the depression, full time jobs have declined by 6.9 million while part-time jobs have increased by 3.1 million.
Here.

(48,997 posts)Thanks for posting both charts. I was about to call out on the dubious use of the second chart, but then I saw the first one (same data set) and the context is perfectly placed. Together they work much better than either one alone.
The second chart of course suffers from the "stealth interrupted axis" defect, but the first chart shows it in context and all is good.
Thanks.

(100,063 posts)A boycott of just one company isn't going to cut it. We're a first world country with third world labor laws, and our health care expenses dwarf the next 40 countries combined. Our workers get treated like absolute shit and one thing that comes along to benefit gets torn down (well, 40+ attempts, anyway ) by those in power, and it needs to be dealt with. Of course our chicken shit teabagger Congress will not cooperate.

(48,997 posts)Making examples of companies by boycotting when these egregious actions arise will put the fear of the market into the cold hearts of companies contemplating similar actions and save many workers jobs and benefits.

(103,856 posts)per week.
The business model for the Mall/Big Box economy is precisely that.. 20-25 hrs per week (keep 'em hungry for hours, so they'll come in at a moment's notice).
If you schedule someone six 4's, they will almost always come in early, stay late, but if you give them three 8's, they will find an extra job to fill their days off.
These companies hire lots of people who make so little that most cannot afford to buy into the insurance even if they are eligible.. They have little or no interest in the welfare of their employees, since they are all infinitely replaceable.
This company has actually done their employees a favor. If the employees are relatively young (as I suspect most are at this chain), the will fit the heavily subsidized plans soon to be available to them. At $10 an hour, their gross is only $295 a week to start with & after taxes, they now may pay even less than what F21 was "offering" some of them.

(5,162 posts)wave of this. Boycotts will not work, nor anything else as the amount of companies will overwhelm any action.
Only changing the law. That is the only solution.

(198 posts)...plus would add: all cuts are for "non-management."
So, the actual staff who deal with customers are being shafted, but there are no plans to cut management, who probably will continue with their higher pay and full benefits.
My teenage daughters shopped there...but no more.
Our family will boycott them.

(3,118 posts)- my own part-time hours were capped at 29 per week so as to avoid being eligible for health insurance. People are now working 2 and 3 part time jobs as there are few to none full time jobs available and they still get no insurance.
Part time jobs with no benefits will continue until the law changes.

The cuts affect less than 1% of of all U.S. store employees.
Around 300 out of over 30,000.
