This Christian Preacher Has No Idea Why His eBook’s Cover is Unintentionally Hilarious…

Here’s some helpful advice: If you’re a fundamentalist Christian, and you’re writing a book about the Bible Principles of Child Discipline (such as “You cannot raise the kids without a paddle”), and you’re looking for a perfect family to put on your book’s cover, you should do a little bit of research when picking a photo…

That, of course, would be one of the families featured on the ABC sitcom “Modern Family,” a show that several religious groups love to hate because it features a homosexual couple (with an adopted child, no less) and was once touted as the “next big thing for gay rights”.

Someone tipped him off:

I hope he gets sued back to the stone ages (where, given his views, I think he'd fit right in).

Several times a year I get a phone call from someone who received a threat letter and thought "I found it on Google" is a defense.

Is it cruel of me to suggest I hope people continue to think that... ka-ching! (Just kidding, although negotiating settlements for people who believe anything on the internet is fair game is what puts food on my table, in part.)

No, I straighten out the clueless for cheap or free pretty often. When decent people do dumb things because, well, they're dumb, I don't get very caught up in what, if anything, they can pay.

(in which case it isn't up to me - and it is usually with a RIAA demand letter for a couple gazillion bucks), or I run into them privately - in which case I do what I can to help out.

But my spouse would be equally mystified about the concept of "office." She's gotten the volunteer of the year award from the local volunteer legal services group twice recently because most of her clients are pro bono.

ETA: But I know what an office is, since someone has to pay the bills.

and sent a huge bill and got paid. The image said copyright right on it, but he cropped that part!

It seems they feel a little vulnerable when you catch them sinning and they want to make amends instead of having the thing go public.

But that brings up one of the thing people who find copyright too much to be bothered with don't often think of.

Some artists are very closely tied to their work - and would not have chosen to let it be used by an evangelist-type. Copyright is what would have let you (if you hadn't been happy with money) force him to tear his work apart and take your work out. With few exceptions, you don't have to let someone use your work. Even if they've already stolen and incorporated it.

(And - FWIW - even if you hadn't put a copyright notice on it, it still would have been copyright infringement for someone to just take it.)

I can understand people not owning a television, but having no idea what appears on TV in the first place? What a dork.

You know this guy probably has - a lot!

On edit: as I expected, it brings up an eyeful of spanking and discipline. The book seems to be the result of such research.

discipline appropriately (requires extensive bdsm porn research), understand the depravity of these EVIL gay people and straight couples who actually have sex to enjoy it -- not to create babies for Jesus -- and so on. Just t.v. Is BAD. Internet is good as an important research tool and source of images. (sarcasm intended of course)
