am a big admirer of Ron Paul and Rand Paul for their very principled positions in the U.S. Congress on a number of issues, * * * * They have been the strongest supporters of the fight against the U.S. attack on WikiLeaks and on me in the U.S. Congress. Similarly, they have been the strongest opponents of drone warfare and extrajudicial executions.
Assange concluded by saying
The only hope as far as electoral politics presently, is the Libertarian section of the Republican party.

(53,473 posts)Talk about irony he of all information is so misinformed about US culture, politics, and apparently our politicians.
Rand Paul is as much a closet racist (but not really that much in the closet), and therefore not suitable, as his father, and this is who Assange thinks is the savior or the repugs?
Guess being isolated in an embassy leads to forgetfulness of such minor details as racism and sexism if someone claims to be anti-war.
Under Paul ff we were fortunate enough to get out of the wars and drone campaigns we'd still have his positions on race and civil rights laws good for the Afghans and drone victims (a good thing) but not so good for African-Americans, Latino-Americans and women.
Nah! Assange your opinion on this stinks.

(44,762 posts)But the Libertarian section of the Republican party seems to be the only partially sane part of that party. If they could take over the republican party then at least they wouldn't be all bat shit crazy. Anti war, anti spying. The rest of their shit could be countered.
Fuck Rand Paul and his little boy too.

(30,058 posts)Assauge has shown his hand, has no trump cards there and to fold. Rand Paul would never make a good president nor would any other libertarian, thoughts are wrong thinking. Just like when Rand thought he could take on Christie and got his butt handed back quickly. TP is bad and so is the libertarians. Come on, there is many qualified people to be presidents, don't sell this country to the likes of a libertarian.

Never, they use them to control us. So, never mind, folks, it's all good! Just forget about history and what happened...
There, there... And all you little women, you can forget about your 4th amendment rights forever, as it's against Gawd's Will.

(34,845 posts)...then i wonder about their panicked frames of mind. They tried to make a martyr out of Manning then Snowden. Neither of those panned out, primarily because Obama stayed cool under pressure, even when that pressure was joined by fellow Democrats.
When the discourse at DU resembles repetitions of Joe Wilson's "You lie!", it's become clear that too many Democrats have bought into the notion that the party cannot be salvaged.
They are ripe for the plucking into some 'safe harbor' such as Rand Paul. At least I think that was the 'hopes and dreams' of Assange, Greenwald, etc.
But just as Rumsfeld figured on Iraq being a cake walk, these Libertarian assholes are finally seeing that taking over the world is not as easy as it's portrayed in a James Bond movie.
They are panicking, showing their true colors. And feeling powerless. Desperate action may follow but they have already lost.
