A Tennessee tea party Republican state legislator told a frightened little girl at a town hall meeting on Thursday in Murfreesboro, TN that laws are laws and that her undocumented father is going to have to be deported. According to ProgressivePopulist.org, 11-year-old Josie Molina told state Rep. Scott Desjarlais (R) that she has papers but her father does not.
During a question and answer session at the meeting, Molina stepped up to the microphone and, with a quavering voice, asked, Mr. DesJarlais, I have papers, but I have a dad whos undocumented. What can I do to have him stay with me?
Rather than make any attempt to assuage the girls fears, Desjarlais said, Thank you for being here and thank you for coming forward and speaking, but the answer still kind of remains the same, that we have laws and we need to follow those laws and thats where were at.
The tea party crowd whooped and applauded wildly as the little girl took her seat, head down. Progressive Populist reported that Josie Molinas father is currently in the process of being deported and that the girl is seeing a child psychologist in order to cope with the stress and anxiety.

I am sure is this going to be very helpful to the Republican's efforts to reach out to Hispanic voters.

(65,340 posts)They booed him because he was gay, just like the time they booed that soldier on active duty in Iraq, also for being gay.
Their virulent hatred of certain groups of people is almost their only real motivation. It outweighs ANY other concern they might have.

(81,238 posts)candidates during a GOP debate this last time? DISGRACEFUL!!! He was asking about Don't Ask Don't Tell and said he was gay. And those assholes BOOED him. He was there IN IRAQ, in the very thick of it over there, on active duty, with his life on the line, DEFINITELY in harm's way - fighting THEIR last guy's war, and they had the gall to boo him because he was gay.
I despised them already. But if I were somehow still wavering, that would have pushed me over. And I'll bet a large majority in that audience never served.
SO HATEFUL!!!! Despicable!!! And downright un-American, although they're all doing their level best to rewrite the definition of what "American" is all about.

(2,205 posts)A person who lives away from the coasts and metropolises, once referred to as a 'hinterlander' but no longer deserving of that otherwise-dignified term. He regards himself as a "real American" and his culture as that of such. He is adamant about his Second Amendment rights but isn't very interested in those other, less-relevant amendments that only the judges and politicians- who he scorns as being "leeches"- care about. He hates the idea of more laws, government or regulation of anything that reduce what he regards as "freedom", itself a word that he flings about without care. He hates non-real Americans, i.e. American citizens who are unlike himself, and those who he hates the most passionately are Muslims, all of whom he associates with the 9/11 attacks. In his telling you what's wrong with the U.S. and the way things ought to be, he could endlessly expand this definition without even knowing he is doing so.
Troglodyte: indoor-smoking, hard-drinking, pickup truck driving, Muslim-hating, liberal-hating, foreigner-hating, homophobic, gun-loving, self-assumed Christian who hasn't set foot in church in "only God knows when".

(81,238 posts)Glad you're here! Well, those republi-CON primary debates last time around were a good place to start. That's where the crowd specialized in reeeeeeeal cute little cat-calls. The booing of that soldier who was at THAT moment calling in from In Harm's Way in Iraq, the hearty cheers and applause when rick perry boasted about how many executions they'd had, and the "let 'em die" darlings (moderator, on a health-care question: "well, what should we do? Just let him die?" Voices yelling in crowd: "YEAH!!!!!!" They should all be ASHAMED of themselves! And I'll bet you something else: I'll bet every last miserable excuse for a human being in each of those audiences will, to this day, be first in line to proclaim loudly and forcefully what a devout Christian he/she is.
These people make me gag. But as long as they continue to show their true selves, the more voters they'll alienate - beyond just the groups to whom they claim they're trying to reach out.

Yes, there are many illegals in the United States (I would be one too, if I faced the dire poverty of Mexico and Central America!), but there are many eligible, but apathetic Latino voters.
First use this awful man's behavior to craft an ad to get Hispanics to registered to vote NOW and then create a massive voter turnout on election day 2014. The Democratic message should be loud and run on every Spanish Language media outlet in the USA: REPUBLICANS DON'T WANT YOU HERE! When the GOP starts squawking about playing the race card (They always do!), run all the quotes of the Republican Party's anti-immigrant hate speech, including this latest Asshole Scott Desjarlais. I married a fallen-away Catholic from a liberally religious Catholic family. She has absorbed the admirable stuff to be gained from religion, as have I. We both ignore the hidebound, crappy stuff. I can never understand the ignorance of basic human tolerance as practiced by many of those who claim to be "Christian" today.

Matthew 25:31-46
The Sheep and the Goats
31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
37 Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?
40 The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
41 Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.
44 They also will answer, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?
45 He will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.
46 Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

(11,816 posts)Here's what teabagfuckheads have posted in return any time I've posted that in an open forum: "Well, we're supposed to do that voluntarily! Jesus didn't want government to do it!"
It's written down right there in their scared Scripture. Could not be clearer. Nothing about gays, guns or abortion, but right there in black and white about the hungry, the sick, the foreigner and the prisoner.
And they probably have a bumper sticker that says "Jesus said it. I believe it. That settle it."
But if it conflicts with their message of xenophobia, greed and hate - then all bets are off.

(53,661 posts)Tenn. Republican Rejects Little Girl's Request for Help to Applause of Tea Party Crowd
Published on Aug 16, 2013
When Tennessee Rep. Scott Desjarlais announced he would hold a town hall on immigration, Josie decided to attend to seek his support even though it was at a tea party event of more than 200. Since her father was placed in deportation proceedings, she's been going to therapy to deal with the anxiety.
Josie rose and took the mic, and in a trembling voice, said "Mr. Desjarlais, I have papers but my daddy doesn't, what can you do to make sure he can stay?" Rep. Desjarlais rebuked her request to a round of applause from the audience, but Josie and her family will keep on fighting to stop his deportation.
Hhe hooting builds as they realize what is going on. Like a pack calling its members to an intended kill.
I am sure someone was there to help the girl get out of there and give her some comfort. But now she knows that she is hated by the community and her feeling don't count at all.
That is a heavy burden.

(229 posts)"You see, little girl, the people I work for want cheap labor. They want to bring American Workers Incomes down to the income of Chinese Laborers. So, since Reagan (who "legalized" millions of foreign-workers for this very reason), we have stopped enforcing our hiring laws, which say only American Citizens and non-citizens with special permission are allowed to join the American Workforce. These laws are pretty-much the same everywhere in the world, only with much harsher penalties for violation in places like Mexico (just ask a Gutemalan doing a year of 'hard time', there).
But there is a catch - the "general populace," who we fool into thinking they have a voice in government - they don't want to work 14-hour-days for a bowl of rice. So we have to "sacrifice" a few families - people like your father - to put on a good show for the Perpetual Suckers that buy our act. I'm sure you understand - it's just how the Billionaire Elites Fool the Masses - and have for centuries. Hell, we even have the so-called Pro-union Workers Party backing the Immigration Bill the Billionaires wrote."
----------------------
Now - What we wish Obama would say:
"We know your family probably came here out of desperation, after NAFTA destroyed your livelihood there, and the US-Military-Trained Zeta-Gang, who was only supposed to murder Uppity Mayans holding resources the Transnationals wanted to STEAL, began their rampage of mass-murder - thinking they had a right to profit from war-crimes and crony-rackets just like their corporate-bosses.
Of course, things weren't all so great before those recent "gringo interventions" - though you could at least grow your own food and Live With Your Extended Family - which you treasured far more than being able to "buy more stuff" at SquWalor Mart. But not to worry little girl. You will soon be reunited with your family at home in Mexico - and not to live in poverty, either.
I have just ordered the US Military to reverse the damage we did in supporting Mexican Despotism for over a century, and depose the fake-government run By and For the ~100 Families that have stolen the VAST WEALTH of your Entire Nation (petroleum, silver, tourism, agriculture) all unto themselves and with Transnational partners, and distribute YOUR Natural Resources as shares to Every Mexican Citizen. I have ordered all CIA records relating to Mexico to be immediately released. New elections will be held after a Truth and Reconciliation Commission Testimony provides your people with the Real History of their nation."

(24,692 posts)This will be news to the record numbers of foreigners who have been deported by the Obama administration and to the many liberals who with he had not pursued the 'get tough' policy designed to please republicans in the hopes they would agree to a comprehensive version of immigration reform. They have not and do not want to have anything to do with 'legalizing' foreign workers ("amnesty" is the code word they use). Also Obama has fined and jailed more 'illegal' employers than any previous administration.
I just realized that you think Obama is just putting on a 'good show' by sacrificing a 'few' (tens of thousands, in reality) families.
"...the so-called Pro-union Workers Party backing the Immigration Bill the Billionaires wrote."
If you look at who voted for and against the bill in the Senate and the its tea party opponents and Progressive Caucus supporters in the House, you might want to revisit your analysis, unless there is some 4-D chess being played to fool us chumps in the "general populace".
HumansAndResources
(229 posts)That was the term used at the time. Wages have never recovered since. Supply and Demand applied to human beings - sad but true.
I don't think it is "Obama" putting on the show in particular - the target of the original-post was in the "R" column - and it is the "R"s who love to crow about "roundups." The Dems hide behind the "humanitarian" story - and there is one, though I outlined the real-solution in my prior post. During this recession, tens of thousands of "surplus workers" (how the corporations see them) can be sent back without undermining the overall "race to the bottom" poverty-effect of 15 Million undocumented-immigrants - here right now - willing to work for change.
If unemployment was around 1%, then one could argue that giving legal status would raise wages. That is not the case. Unemployment, using the original pre-Reagan calculations, is at record-highs. Underemployment even worse. And, No, I do not "blame Obama," specifically, for the unemployment, like some Limbaugh-listener who doesn't see the "tag-team" switcheroo game for what it is. Outsourcing-tax-breaks and lack of a wage-neutralizing tariff are to blame. I'd like to hear the president reject "Globalization" outright, and "Re-Negotiate NAFTA" as he promised (and back-channel denied the next day), but I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe five years of a black president that they haven't been able to remove has eaten away at their facade and sanity. Maybe it's the fact that they know their power in votes is declining, and they're getting desperate. Perhaps the news of being spied on by the NSA has them on edge as it does everyone. Maybe it's all of the above and more. I don't know what's caused it, but every rationalization they once used as a smokescreen has blown away, and they're revealing themselves to be as close to pure evil as a person can get without murder, which is probably going to follow next.
