Operation Orange Fingers=greatest name ever?

Seattle PD Ran Out of Free HempFest Doritos in 10 Minutes

The Seattle Police Department's plan to hand out safety flyers at this weekend's HempFest that people would actually want seems to have worked beautifully: the free Doritos attached to each flyer were gone in 10 minutes, according to the department. Each mini-package of snacks (they brought 1,000 of them) was adorned with a series of educational tips for the largest marijuana-themed festival in the world. "Don't drive while high," they advise, adding, "Don't give, sell, or shotgun weed to people under 21." Do, they say, "listen to Dark Side of the Moon at a Reasonable Volume."

Oh, and don't worry about Hempfest goers who didn't get their Doritos-Seattle PD didn't send them home hungry. There were hot dogs as a back up.

Nothing fun-folding laundry while drinking coffee and trying to get the kid out of bed for church. I'm definitely not imbibing in anything that might warrant free Doritos, lol.

Link's been added.

while some were against the laws on the books back then. I worked for a police department for a couple of years and some of the officers were absolutely against the marijuana laws. They felt that the laws took up too much time to enforce and diverted valuable resources from other areas. They also felt that in some cases a young life was ruined over a stupid joint. OTOH, other cops in the department were ready to bust for anything they could find.

As in any field, there are good and there are bad. The problem is that the bad show their asses and get all the attention.

refuse to enforce drug laws?

The problem is that those non-enforcing cops were individuals and the corrupt ones are endemic to the institution. Your anecdotal cops vs the corrupt and violent ones documented daily .....

Screw cops.

11. They enforced the laws because, in the end, it was the law.

But I can tell you that a significant number of those officers also thought that the marijuana laws were a waste, unless it was a large amount. Some felt bad for a kid getting caught with a joint (it's a college town, experimenting is common and getting caught could ruin their future by way of education and job opportunities). Others, which was even more common, didn't want to deal with the crappy paperwork for it. Not too many officers like doing the paperwork and would rather find a way around it. In the end, it was the law and they enforced it. They did their jobs. Some were jerks about it while others were not happy to have to enforce it.

When I worked in the department there was a big meth problem in the area. Most of the officers stated, at one time or another, that if they didn't have to deal with the penny ante pot laws they would have more resources to deal with the labs and the tweakers in the area. They wouldn't have to take an hour or ninety minutes to book the perp, work the paperwork, transport them to the county jail, etc. That time could be spent on domestic violence calls, which were very common.

The only cops I knew who really enjoyed busting people for weed were lazy, assh*le cops who wanted an easy night and didn't want to deal with any other calls that shift. Unfortunately, there are plenty of those in the world.
