Florida men busted for making hooch. Sounds like gourmet quality.
FloriDUH: Trio of moonshiners busted in the Sunshine State
On Thursday detectives busted three Haines City men for allegedly making and selling illegal hooch. During a search of the home of Ricky Lamar Barnes, 31, who lives on the aptly named Carl Boozer Road, detectives found a gun safe in the Barnes allegedly told detectives the cannabis "was old" and he had forgotten to get rid it, as it was his "rainy day" pot, according to an arrest affidavit form the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Barnes owned the equipment and apparently had a talent for refining the booze and creating assorted flavors such as pineapple, apple pie, and peach, deputies said. Detectives also found a moonshine still and still equipment inside the garage of Joe Douglas Aaron, 73, along with numerous mason jars of the moonshine which appeared to have been distilled from a mixture of grains. The still was in a bathroom next to a dirty sink and a toilet, according to the Sheriff's Office. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sfl-flduh-moonshiners-busted-20130817,0,4262208.story

2. I posted it because of the pretty colors of hooch.
And it's current news.
We seriously have a "Hate Florida" group? |

3. Probably imported from Tennessee.
The woman I go kayaking with in Tampa goes up to the sticks in Tennessee with her boyfriend, and brings back this blackberry infused moonshine. That stuff is delicious. And smooth. Just sip it. No ice. No nothing.

4. Should be legal to make shine
The only reason the government cares is because they want their tax money.
Should be legal to grow pot too. But I've given up hope for rational government. Won't see it in my lifetime. |

5. It is legal, its just regulated
similar to the rest of the food industry. If you want to make your own the odds of getting in trouble are pretty slim, the same as if you want to bake your own cupcakes. On the other hand, if you want to produce and market things for public consumption there are regulations set up to ensure that the product is safe.
Most regulations like that come as immediate responses to cases of sickness or death from contaminated or poorly prepared products. Its one of the better and most rational things that government does, generally speaking. |

7. but, if you can
make your own wine, your own beer, should you not be able to make your own private stash of whiskey?
I am under the impression it is illegal to even distill said spirits. ![]() |

12. Wrong.
Under federal law, distilling is punishable by 5 years imprisonment, whether or not the liquor is intended for sale. The only reason the government gives a damn is to get their tax dollars. If you believe it's for public safety, that's your right.
Distilling should be legal for personal consumption, like beer and wine. |

18. Unless you have the proper licensing, which is what it means to be a "regulated" product
Its been legal to produce liquor in the US since prohibition was lifted, if you have the license to do so.
I do agree though - producing for personal consumption should be allowed, as it is in most places for beer and wine. |

15. I just read the book Possum Living
which shows how easy it is to do stovetop moonshine with a pressure cooker. Of course this was written before pressure cookers became so controversial. It is so easy I may just have to do it someday. Would probably make my Kentucky forebears proud.
As for the legality, WTF do I care. ![]() |

17. My state had prohibition until 1959
Not one of the ones where it is legal.
Personally I would rather move where it is legal (up and to the left) to produce something else and then I would never drink anything harder than beer again but just for the fun of it maybe. |
