(N.B. I have no opinion on the factual basis of this story, but offer it as just one more entry in the collective diary of a world gone mad.)

Since the closure of a formal inquiry into her death, the British police have not considered any of the theories worthy of investigation, until now.
The latest claims originate from the family of a star witness who appeared in a recent court case involving members of the elite SAS Special Forces unit. In a letter written by the estranged in-laws of a man known only as Soldier N, it is claimed that the ex-Special Forces operative had boasted that the SAS was behind Princess Dianas death in conversations with his ex-wife.

(42,239 posts)Not a Mercedes aside from which there were no airbags then. Diana was a rear passenger. The rear airbags on a Merc S arm only when the seat belts are engaged - the airbags didn't deploy. Had the airbags deployed she would likely be alive now.
Btw - 'case you hadn't noticed I'm English and that was stock joke here involving another at a later date.

The new claims were made in a seven-page handwritten letter written by the parents of the estranged wife of Soldier N, a former member of the SAS who was a key prosecution witness at Sgt Nightingales trial.
In September 2011 they wrote to the regiments commanding officer raising concerns about their son-in-laws allegedly erratic and threatening behaviour.
The letter, which was censored before being released to the court martial, states: "He [Soldier N] also told her [the daughter] that it was the XXX who arranged Princess Dianas death and that has been covered up.

The womans parents also wrote of how Soldier N had told their daughter he could make her disappear and described his killing escapades while deployed with the SAS, Channel 4 News reported.
