By Annie-Rose Strasser
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said on Sunday that he doesnt think its a good idea to shut down the government over the funding of Obamacare, but that he is hoping his party does it anyway.
Paul has been one of the leading people calling on Congress to block a resolution that would fund the government unless money for Obamacare is not included in the bill. He was one of the fifteen senators to sign onto a letter vowing to block funding the health care law. But on Sunday, Paul told Fox News Sunday that, I dont think shutting down the government is a good idea.
Still, Paul went on, I do think that we were elected, conservatives were elected, to try to stop this overreach, this government takeover of healthcare, and so we should use the leverage of controlling one-third of the government to at the very least make that law less bad, delay it, do something we can to protect the American public from the law.
Acknowledging that support for a shutdown isnt broad enough in the Senate, Paul said that his colleagues in the House of Representatives should instead be the ones to make defunding the health law a priority: We dont control all of the government, but Republicans control the House of Representatives, they should stand up, use that power to at the very least make that law less bad, delay it, do something we can to protect the American public from the law, Paul said. If the Republicans in the House try to defund the law, the two chambers of Congress could conference on a bill that may defund some parts of Obamacare. The House of Representatives has voted 40 times to repeal the Affordable Care Act, but have never been successful, and Republicans have not presented an alternative bill.

...you "can't understand" why a Think Progress post calling out a Senate Republican on the issue of shutting down the government is posted?
Really?
There are baffling posts (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10023479770), but the OP isn't one of them.

And no, he is a blip on the radar, a nothing. I care nothing for what he says. I don't dignify any of his statements with a response except to say I could give a shit what he thinks.

Defensive about rand paul since ol julian(Ignorant Obama hater) came out and supports him in 2016?

(16,020 posts)and that there is an internal fight about it. That is a great topic of conversation and has been discussed here a lot. If every other post lately
did not mention one of the Pauls it might be palatable but I have soured beyond reason on caring what any of them say. It seems to almost be an obsession to mention them as frequently as possible here and to give them importance miles beyond what either of them merit. I don't understand it. Perhaps you can enlighten me on why you post frequently about them? It might help me to understand.

(16,020 posts)I have no problem criticizing republicans. I am asking about the Paul father and son obsession. Every other post seems to mention them like they are magicians or boogeymen. Everyone knows they are spits in the wind with little to no actual power in the big picture. I am trying to understand the phenomena.

I'll continue calling him out. It would be good if he lost his Senate seat.
Fuck Rand Paul.
Good luck with getting him unelected by repeatedly posting on the internet about him.

(11,495 posts)I think he is simply trying to come off as "not as crazy" as he really is. He will need to gain more voters than his Dad's followers, so in order to do that he has to come off as half way sane. He will say anything to get votes and like Romney, he will change his view on a daily bases depending on who he is talking to at the moment.
Just like his dad, he can't be trusted.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/01/24/1181630/-The-Top-10-Reasons-Rand-Paul-should-never-start-a-sentence-Had-I-been-president
No doubt you've seen Sen. Rand Paul's made-for-TV tantrum yesterday at the U.S. Senate's Benghazi hearing. When the Kentucky senator had his turn to question Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, he said:
"I'm glad that you're accepting responsibility. I think ultimately with your leaving that you accept the culpability for the worst tragedy since 9/11. And I really mean that. Had I been president and found you did not read the cables from Benghazi and from Ambassador Stevens, I would have relieved you of your post. I think it's inexcusable."
Setting aside Sen. Paul's thickheaded and insensitive remark that the murder of four Americans in Libya is "the worst tragedy since 9/11"worse, for example, than 4,000 Americans killed in a pointless and costly warhis tea party toadying, "Had I been president," should not pass without comment.

(23,091 posts)Halfassed, backhanded support that is! I'd support it in one sense because it will piss people off at the R's and make it more likely we can win back the House and actually get America moving forward again. Of course, it's the insane course of action, and hurts the country and economy so would be totally reprehensible, but what else have we come to expect from the Teahadists in congress?

(10,893 posts)that still really nags me about all of this is that if the Tea-fiends hate government so much and want to shut it down, what the Frick are they doing in it besides getting a salary, kickbacks, benefits, and health insurance?
