By Pedro Fonseca
(Reuters) - The journalist who first published secrets leaked by fugitive former U.S. intelligence agency contractor Edward Snowden vowed on Monday to publish more documents and said Britain will be "sorry" for detaining his partner for nine hours.
British authorities used anti-terrorism laws on Sunday to detain David Miranda, partner of U.S. journalist Glenn Greenwald, as he passed through London's Heathrow airport.
Miranda, 28, a Brazilian citizen, said he was questioned for nine hours before being released without charge, minus his laptop, cellphone and memory sticks, which were seized.

"I will be far more aggressive in my reporting from now. I am going to publish many more documents. I am going to publish things on England too. I have many documents on England's spy system. I think they will be sorry for what they did," Greenwald, speaking in Portuguese, told reporters at Rio's airport where he met Miranda upon his return to Brazil.

(27,787 posts)because he thought the public had a "need to know".
In other words, he had information on UK spying activity for some time, but he was going to sit on it.
However, now that the UK made him mad, he's going to publish that information ... and make them "sorry".
If his motive for releasing this info is to "make them sorry" ... I wonder what his motive for not publishing this information had been.

(27,787 posts)GG wants to publish the info he has on UK spying.
But he decides he needs a reason (one other than the "people's right to know"?)
So, he sends his spouse to get some material, with the intent of getting him detained.
So, that he can then say "That's it .... no more mister nice guy!!"
And publish the info he has. And maybe get more attention as a result.
I don't know ... he comes across like a blackmailer who took a bunch of pictures and has been holding on to them looking trying to decide when to leverage them.

(24,096 posts)Threatening the UK so quickly after the incident - has it even been 24 hours (I read aobut this here last night).
Is GG just being irresponsible and impulsive (quite possible) or did he already consider all the factors of announcing this, before the actual event? You would think this sort of act would require some time and consideration before you jump in with both flapping gums.

...it's right in line with the way Greenwald thinks. Think about his previous similar comment:
"The U.S. government should be on your knees every day praying that nothing happens to Snowden, because if something happens, all information will be revealed and that would be their worst nightmare. "
In fact, when Greenwald accused the President of having a "vindictive mentality" (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10023068613), I do believe he was projecting.

(65,616 posts)that was stupid and there is no evidence that the UK got any information from Miranda since they let him go.
