If Miranda Wasn't A Journalist, Why Did The Guardian Pay For His Trip?

“This is obviously a serious, radical escalation of what they are doing. He is my partner. He is not even a journalist.” -- Glenn Greenwald, as quoted by Charlie Savage of the NYT

If Mr. Miranda isn't a journalist, then why is The Guardian paying for his trip?

What was he doing for the Guardian?

That must fall under the international anti-Journalism statutes.

Of course.

In order for him to have expected to pass through Heathrow en route between one person involved with the Snowden materials and another person involved with them, in possession of various electronic devices capable of storing information, without being braced by police, he would have to be profoundly stupid.

Rightly or wrongly, maybe he thought Miranda's trip would draw more scrutiny if "Greenwald" appeared in the credit card receipt...Although this is pure guesswork on my part
