For those wondering how long it would take Alabama employees to start shooting one another:

8 of 32 guns confiscated by the TSA last week.

Well, the quiet period in gun cleaning accidents has come to an emphatic end, with the discovery of five such mishaps this week. Among the other most commonly recurring GunFAIL situations: three people were injured in two separate accidental shootings at pawn shops, three waistband ninjas shot themselves in the groin, one cop shot himself, two target shooting accidents wounded three (including a man shot by his 3-year-old son, who shot him with a .22 rifle—was it a Crickett?), two elderly men accidentally shot their wives while loading or unloading their guns, and someone in Rock Hill, SC accidentally blew a hole in himself. (Rock Hill's eighth GunFAIL appearance.)

There were also some incidents of special note this week. A Lancaster, OH incident in which a gun safety instructor teaching a concealed weapons carry qualification course accidentally shot one of the students in his class. (I wonder if the student, an aspiring elementary school teacher, will have any thoughts about the risk of accidents that might arise from arming teachers in the classroom.) A Dana Point, CA man who bought himself a brand-new AR-15 and accidentally put a round through his apartment wall and shot a neighbor in the head with it. And the young woman in Pennsylvania who, having once been witness to a mass shooting, later bought herself a gun for self-protection, but was killed with that gun the very day she bought it.

Two other incidents of note implicate other current questions of gun policy. In Alabama, a new law went into effect on August 1st which allows employees to bring their guns to work. For those wondering how long it would take for Alabama employees to start accidentally shooting one another at work, the answer is at hand: 12 days. And for those pondering the wisdom of expanding the rights of college students to bring their guns with them to campus (given their proclivity for binge drinking), Western Washington University provides this week's anecdote weighing against....

The woman accused of shooting her Walmart coworker on Wednesday will be in court this afternoon.

Justine Boyd, 46, of Greenville, will appear at 2:15 p.m. before the Winnebago County Court Commissioner on charges related to the shooting, the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office said. Boyd was arrested after the victim, Sharon Goffard, 56, of Neenah, was shot at close range before 11:15 a.m. Wednesday in the liquor section of Walmart at 1155 W. Winneconne Ave.

Police recovered a handgun at the scene owned by Boyd or her husband. Boyd had a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Walmart does not allow its employees to carry weapons in the store, but customers can.

They said that she had 2 guns on her. Apparently she was upset because the woman she shot had gotten the job as cashier in the Liquor department instead of her. So it was justified.

the wild, wild, west. This culture where you can solve your problems with a firearm is been emboldened by ALEC and the NRA. They don't see that sickening ugly person with the ugly heart and cruel intent that is purchasing the firearm. This person is only a problem to them, when the Gun is turned on them or someone they love while shopping at the Grocery store. Or going to a community town hall. Or to a movie theater. Or to school. They are perfectly happy with this lawlessness and ignorance to the lowest degree. Until it walks into their world. Its fine as long as it is those people killing each other. Besides, It helps their friends in the For Profit System get rich. When will silly people understand they are all working together. Alec, NRA, Weapons Manufacturers, For Profit Prison Systems and the Republicans and some Democrats too. Yes Democrats too have not voted to have some form of Gun legislation that would protect the people or their children. Some people love their guns more than they love their children.
