Wow: Major shakeup at MSNBC... Ed Schultz returns to Weekdays--takes Tweety's 5 pm slot!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/19/ed-schultz-weekdays-chris-matthews-msnbc-chris-hayes_n_3780084.html

?6

Ed Schultz is moving back to weekdays, and taking one of Chris Matthews' time slots, MSNBC said Monday.

Schultz will take over the 5 PM slot Mondays through Fridays, starting August 26th. Matthews, whose "Hardball" aired at both 5 and 7 PM, will now air solely at 7.

TV Newser and The Hollywood Reporter both reported the news.

The move represents something of a triumphant return from the wilderness for Schultz. He moved to the relative desert of weekend afternoons back in May; now, he will not only be returning to weekdays, but kicking off MSNBC's prime time lineup every night.

Teleprompters are very hard to learn to use. Joy Reid struggled at first, but she's gotten the hang of it.. Al's a great extemporaneous speaker, but hard-break cues are built into the prompter, and if he's behind or ahead of the text, he stumbles...

and names of people are very hard for him too..

I like Al, but it's a cringe-worthy attempt at a show every day.. I wish they'd give him a couple of comfy chairs & have 1 guest and just left them talk...and lower Al's mic by several decibels

Also I rarely watch purely partisan programming, even for our side.

Tweety is terrible, glad to see his time reduced. He loves the "game" of politics, and the gotchas, but he's part of the distraction rather than part of the solution.

Just my opinion.

Good to have Ed back on weekdays. I have some issues with his delivery, too, so won't watch much of him, but he is a good fighter for the people (as is Sharpton).

He's adorable and can't help it....smart as hell too.

Ah, if I was thirty years younger.....

They give children their own TV shows now, and he is an adorable child.

Now get off my lawn while I go listen to some moldy oldies...Mozart and Dvorak and Rachmaninoff.

This is by FAR the best news that I have seen in a LONG time!

I figured they were "holding" the slot for the past couple years to "hold" it for something.

Tweet was out all last week and I understand that they also ended his weekend roundtable show last month.

It seems they have been "grooming" Joy for on-air host, so maybe she will take Ed's slot to get her feet wet and get a format going.. Would still love to see Crystal Ball, Joy Reid, and Joan Walsh with a show.

Why wouldn't they want to split his re-broadcast by a few hours rather than just one so the night owls can share in the suffering?

Agreed, and disagreed. TYT brings lots of interesting material to the front. But then they the present it like the annoying, socially awkward, but oh so intellectually superior older cousin presenting youtube videos to the younger kids at a family function.

I find it annoying. Whenever their clips are posted, I want to watch, but I cant force myself to watch Cenk. Usually the unedited, non commentary version will be available somewhere, so I end up using the prompting of a TYT clip to search out the original video, which usually is able to speak well enough on its own. So.. I'd be less informed/aware without them, but I never watch them. Its an odd learning model.

That said, I've put the kibosh on cable and basically never watch any TV news anywhere anymore, so My opinions of what should be on the lineup dont really matter much.

Ed's wife was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment (surely?). Ed wanted to stay on MSNBC but, close to home during the treatments, right? So he works weekends and the plan all along was for him to return and replace one of Chris' shows. Works for me. If they could replace Rev Al (stop yelling) and Tweety with less spittle, I might watch during those hours. It's hard on Mtn time to watch any of the prime time stuff except with the EST repeats. I don't even miss Rachel's show anymore. I just haven't watched and don't have cable anyway. We watch most tv on-line.

I miss his expertise on financial matters, how Wall Street impacts the economy, and many other concerns that I have. I thought his simple approach to complicated or convoluted topics was invaluable. When he felt it necessary, he slammed Republicans as well as Democrats. At least his integrity was obvious. Wish he would come back as a guest if not as a host.

I don't get the Chris Hayes hate. He's on our side, he's sharp, he just doesn't rant and rave, isn't bombastic. We need all kind of voices calling out the corporate state, the plutocracy.

I find him refreshing, extremely knowledgeable, and able to stay one step ahead of anyone--if that is what he would want to do--because of his super quick mind and his ability to put his thoughts into words immediately before a prospective opponent would realize the need to do so. I hope Chris decides to run for elective office some day after the nation gets to know him and like him from seeing his show on MSNBC.

When they moved him to the week-end I was really ticked off. Week-ends really ARE the desert especially during the spring/summer months. Even when I was home on week-ends I simply forgot he was on, but did catch him several times. Now, what to do about Karen Finney?

I know she hasn't proved her "creds" I do like her a lot.

AND I so enjoyed The Stephanie Miller Show on Current. I was watching Current more often recently because I knew I could see the repeats on MSNBC. Now Current has dropped everyone. I have a feeling Stephanie is contracting with FSTV where Thom Hartmann is now along with Democracy Now. I kind of got hooked with Stephanie and have already missed the show. Guess they haven't decided about where the show is going to move, but they did say they'll have a TV show again.

Good, good for Eddie! He really was done dirty!

140. I'm a huge MSNBC junkie.
Tue Aug 20, 2013, 03:45 AM
Aug 2013

I'm glad Big Ed is returning. I've been a fan since the
Air America days. I love it when he gets himself all
jacked up about labor unions and workers' rights. He is
a rare champion of the middle class and doesn't back
down to bullies or the corporatist demagogues.

Sadly, it can be excruciating to watch him or Rev Al as they
stumble through and butcher the script with their stilted
deliveries. Al can seem lost sometimes. Ed is at his very best
when he goes off-script and gets pissed off (I'd love to
see him punch somebody in the face!) I believe that Melissa
Harris-Perry could attract more viewers than Al or Chris Hayes.

I could never understand why, from a business perspective,
MSNBC would repeat Hairball at 7 pm, only to interrupt the flow
of their programming (lots of clickers heard clicking at 7 pm)

Rachel is their star -- amazing amount of info and insight every day.
You can tell she has a PhD by the way she presents her theses.
The pedantic Chris Hayes bores the hell out of me. Lawrence O's
show is "OK". He usually has great topics, but he tends to overdo
the maudlin routine.

And I also feel repulsed by the "Lock Up" shows. When did
televising the misery of prisoners become "entertainment"? What
is so fascinating? Why not televise burn victims in hospitals or
the people being tortured in Gitmo? Sadism and voyeurism all
rolled into one horrible program.

My ideal MSNBC line-up would be:

5 pm: Chris Hayes
6 pm: Big Ed
7 pm: Hairball
8 pm: RMS
9 pm: Melissa Harris (? with Karen Finney)
10 pm: Lawrence O.
11 pm: Sean Hannity (JUST KIDDING!) recycle -- including Fridays.
