Fighting/unrest kills tourism leading to more unemployment leading to more unrest. 5 years ago I had a friend whose daughter was going to spend a month in Syria and Jordan doing middle eastern studies. That would be unthinkable now. I personally would love to travel to Egypt but there is no way I would do it now.
