Snowden is being judged for what he did. Russia/Putin punish GLBTQ people for being who they are.

Federal protections against such discrimination? Did all of us US gay people do something to deserve such punishment? The repeal of DOMA just 'left it to the States' and 29 out of 50 allow open, clear discrimination against LGBT people in housing, employment and services. I say the US abuses are also because of who we are. The lack of Federal law to protect us is also because of who we are.
Sure, Russia is worse, but the two nations are on the same list of nations that allow discrimination against certain minority groups. Cope with the facts Straights so casually impose upon others. Or do you claim we are all guilty of something?

I agree with you.

My point is not to defend bigotry in the US--it's that the comparison being drawn here between Snowden and GLBTQ persons is completely bogus and misinformed.
