It looks like this week's attack is on "the left."

Last edited Fri Aug 30, 2013, 08:25 PM - Edit history (1)

Who remembers, pre-DU3, when "About DU" identified as a premier left-wing discussion group, which is not a direct quote, since I can no longer find the old version of "about DU?"

"Left-wing" has disappeared in favor of "liberal" in the newest incarnation.

Are those on the left now the enemy? Assuming "the left" are those to the left of the current center-right Democratic administration, how many of "the left" are left on DU?

I'm going to work. I'll check on the poll when I get home.

Edited on 8/30:

After popping in this evening and spending 15 minutes on the front page of GD, it looks like this needs a kick.

DU members that take on the far Left members don't oppose them. What I have seen instead is an attempt to reason with the far Left and point out that our goals are the same, but our methods of achieving those goals is what vary. The Center and Left-Center get it that people that have the same goals can not agree on how to reach those goals, the far Left don't seem to get it. The far Left would rather burn down the house in the hopes that a better one can be raised from the ashes, what the far Left insures is that republicans will get elected and make rebuilding impossible. I have issues with people that seem incapable of logical reasoning when setting strategy.

Poll question: I oppose the left. Number of respondents: 2.

"I oppose the left" is not reasoning with them.

But thank you for your slight of the far left with character assassinations of burning down the house or that uncle gunnysack will get us if they don't shut up and vote for corporate Dems. The corporate Dems are Uncle Gunnysack.

You were right about one thing, though. You have issues. Most likely with honesty and where you really stand: left, center or right.

But do go on and dig the hole a little deeper and apologize for others.

Reasoning works to get things accomplished much better than the old "my way or the highway" tactic. Right now almost all of the right want to use the "my way or the highway" plan to get their way, which at the moment seems to be shutting down the whole government, not really a great idea if you ask me.

It's pretty bad when the far left want's the same kind of "my way or the highway" plan also. Nobody, and I mean nobody can get everything they want, no matter how big a fit they throw, no matter how stubborn they are, it just won't work. There are always two sides to everything, and in order to get anything done there has to be some kind of a compromise, another thing the far right is not interested in at the moment, and it seems the far left is in the same boat! As you stated when the left does this it usually gets more republicans elected, it happened in 2010, and looks like many here want it to happen again. Some posters here have already said as much. It's a shame that people can reason together and work on a way to get something done that might help, instead of sitting home on election day and yelling at the TV when they find out their state is now run by teapubllicans, and so is congress!

We all need to learn from our mistakes. 2010 was a big mistake and many states have suffered along with the entire country due to the take over of the House. To all those who say let it happen again, I say be careful of what you wish for! Once republicans gain control the whole country loses!

Ah, yes. The corrupt meme that the far right and left are colluding.

And if the left isn't colluding they are throwing fits and being stubborn.

It would be so much better if the left just sat down, shut up and vote for who they are told to vote for.
And when Republicans win then blame the left instead of the candidate that couldn't win.

Top shelf thinking you have there.

Yeppers, all the dirty lefts fault.

Third way all they way!

Some words that describe them - authoritarian, sycophant, "my party right or wrong", etc. They are the only ones who are always talking about the left in negative terms.

Want real change?

Let the centrist's worst nightmare come true. Let them lose to the crazy. Let the apathetic general population get pissed. Let the incompetency of the Democratic Party leadership take the heat for either losing to crazy or compromising the working man in "victory".

Just don't help them anymore.

Every time I see the "Get out the vote" chant, I will have plenty of bookmarks ready.

Remember. We are not needed.

I'm not sure the monolithic Left exists anyway.

I think people in general are too eager to divide themselves up. While there are people and issues who push my buttons, in general I try to remember that if they are participating here, we probably have more in common politically than not.

Or are you on the "if it walks like a duck" side where those are concerned?

All I see is a bunch of Democrats infighting and eating their own rather than focusing on working against the extremism of the GOP.

abandon Democratic principles you're going to see infighting. A lot of us aren't going down that road without a fight.

Working against the GOP? I'd have a hell of a lot more energy to do so if my own party weren't helping the fuckers.

Don't be a wingnut (right-wing or extreme-fringe).

Democratic Underground is an online community for politically liberal people who understand the importance of working within the system to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of political office. Teabaggers, Neo-cons, Dittoheads, Paulites, Freepers, Birthers, and right-wingers in general are not welcome here. Neither are certain extreme-fringe left-wingers, including advocates of violent political/social change, hard-line communists, terrorist-apologists, America-haters, kooks, crackpots, LaRouchies, and the like. I don't know why you think that you need to post that for me; if I didn't already know what it said, I wouldn't have commented on the change in phrasing.

I guess it gives you the opportunity to throw out the "Oh, yeah, go start your own discussion board!" like a good adolescent bully.

I'll have to look to see how you responded to the poll; that ought to be amusing.

Meanwhile, I think I'll stay right here, since you aren't the "decider," lol, and you can go forth and multiply.
