AN Oklahoma court has been told how one of the boys accused of murdering Melbourne baseballer Chris Lane danced as he was being booked into jail.

He also said the killer left a chilling message on Facebook before the spree - "Bang. Two drops in two hours".
Are some people born beyond redemption, or is every monster a partial creation of his environment?

(68,868 posts)I guess killing one human being wasn't entertaining enough for them.

(1,532 posts)And sadly, some people are unable to feel human emotions or a have conscience due to a psychological disorder and/or severe physical/emotional abuse or neglect during childhood.

(12,665 posts)HLN just said police stated the boys said they had nothing better to do. How sick and horrifying is that.
Yes, I believe some are born without redemption. However, wouldn't it be rare for three such individuals to be together? So, I think it's both. Some irredeemable, some created by their environment.

(8,646 posts)the others are either so desperate to 'belong' to a group that they don't care WHAT they have to do to feel accepted, or the others are also sociopaths, like the leader, who are trying to prove themselves. It's a game to them.
Every time sociopathy comes up there's a back and forth about nature or nurture. I believe it's both. I think sociopaths are born with a genetic brain defect (or sometimes a brain injury) that predisposes them to be unable to feel empathy unless they are specifically taught and shown as very small babies/children so they can rewire their brains. If there is even a small amount of dysfunction in the family, it can lead to horrible consequences for the child who is predisposed to sociopathy and to the family that has to deal with them. Usually, since sociopathy (or the predisposition in the brain) is also often genetic you will often find families of these children have a long history of dysfunction and sociopathic behavior. I was married to one, and it definitely ran in his family.

(46,416 posts)It's just bad luck. I don't support the death penalty, especially not for juveniles, but a primitive part of me wants these kids to face it just because, hey, "we're bored".

That poor family.
Lock 'em up and throw away the key. There is something so very wrong with these kids....and saying that makes me sad too.

(22,541 posts)I think some people are absolutely born without any empathy or caring or feeling for other living beings. And they will never have it.
Most are smart enough to fake it because they learn life is difficult for them if they appear to be different. A few fake it well.

(1,850 posts)I think they become that way. Maybe they never bonded with their mothers, or other caregivers. Maybe horrible things happened to them as small children that corrupted their characters. Whatever . . .
I just can't believe that an innocent little baby could lack that spark of humanity.

(10,164 posts)Sorry* if that sounds harsh, but that one's a cull. There is no reason a POS like that should continue to waste oxygen (and potentially pollute the gene pool).
*Okay, that's a fib: I'm not sorry.
