Al Jazeera begins life in the USA with an act of censorship

Not a good way to debut.

So I can no longer watch the live streams, no longer have easy access to the videos on AJ English and not even have easy access to the site itself as it re-directs me to their America site which has VERY limited content.

I have been going to AJ English for years to get their coverage of world events. Its a great source of news. '

Now I don't have their channel on cable and don't have access to their website. They just lost a loyal fan. I am sure they don't care.

NY Times has an article that partly deals with this

I looked for this and could not find one that worked!

Thanks x100

Still annoyed with them to go this route. Not a good way to go imo.

My friend works at AJ English and they are NOT a happy group of journalists right now let me tell you.

I dont like to do it either but if channels would offer us stuff on the tubes we wouldnt have to go this way. And hey, we're just watching. Its there whether we look at it or not.

Also, I suggest you dump IE. Sounds like you might be using it.

I feel bad. You should be able to uninstall by going to your programs folder and sorting by date. You can get rid of anything it made you install that way. PM me if I can be of assistance, ok?

Im really sorry burnodo. I use firefox with the pop-up blocker turned on. So when I go to that site, I just press play and it plays. No pop-ups, no installs, no nothing. Ive literally been using that site for years.

I would never intentionally lead a DUer to a site that did that shit. Again, Im really, REALLY sorry.

I just figured whatever popped up would be legitimate. It didn't even give me an option about all the programs that loaded. I was able to remove all the newly installed programs and clen up my Chrome extensions

Thats the whole reason I stopped using the corporate browsers years ago. It was my fault for not saying what browser I use. Seriously. Im a programmer, I should know better.

Im glad you got the crap off.

That is big time censorship!! Al Jazeera English was so much better then any US media outlet. Now it is all the same. Now I see the big picture with this takeover. Keep us in the dark about a lot of stuff. Does anyone here know how we can link to Al Jazeera English?

Said you need something called a "VPN" to circumvent the censorship.

I am not going to spend any money for that though so I guess I will go without.

Hugs to you both.

We will be road-tripping in the not-so-distant future. I think we should arrange a "meet up." Interested? Both of you? I'll work on "my" SO and you work on "yours." Whatcha think?

If no...as it is...if yes...as it is.

So mote it be.

No Cable or Satellite television, no Adobe Flash plugin, no Windows, no Mac, no Android, no iTunes, no nothing like that.

I see very few advertisements in my life. A lot of times I don't know what the fuss is about and I like it that way.

Nobody is "censoring" me, I'm censoring them.

What's different about their home page? It looks the same to me.

Their streaming said I need to upgrade my flash player before, and it says the same thing now.

I can see "Al Jazeera America" at http://america.aljazeera.com but http://www.aljazeera.com is same.

Then a popup window asks if you would like to set it as your default AJ page. So yes, AJE is accessible in the U.S.

excellent reporters in every country in the world. That is why Bush tried to kill their reporters.

That is why they were banned here.

Until they changed their ways. And they did.

I stopped watching after I noticed a bias creeping into their reporting. A bias towards the West and I was right. They were exposed for changing their reporting under influence from the West.

So the US finally let them into the US market, under certain conditions. I doubt we'll see much of their former excellent reporting on the Israel/Palestine situation eg.

Hillary Clinton bemoaned the fact a few years ago that the 'US is losing the message' due to news orgs like Al Jazeera and RT, and now we have several more, China's English Channel eg, is also an excellent source of news.

I was surprised that she so blatantly called news reporting 'the message', but probably shouldn't have been. Since they can't crush them or stop them, I guess they bribed Al Jazeera. I won't be watching if it is going to be just another MSM, pablum for the American audience.
