The Obama family has adopted a new dog, the White House announced on August 19. CNN reported that "Sunny -- a female Portuguese Water Dog -- is joining Bo as 'first pet.' "
The Daily Caller responded to the news by noting that neither of the Obamas' dogs are white:
"A Portuguese Water Dog can range in cost wildly. On average, one will pay between $1,400 and $2,000. President Barack Obama has this breed of animal," according to an answer on Ask.com.
With the addition of Sunny, the Obamas now have two black Portuguese water dogs.
The Obamas do not have any white dogs.

(14,881 posts)They have not adopted Sunny, they have purchased her. That's fine; apparently they made a substantial donation to a shelter in lieu of adopting.
But Sunny was not adopted. She was not homeless, nor was she at risk of ever being homeless or being killed because nobody wanted her or could take her in.
Portuguese Water Dogs are 1%er dogs. Not because of their price, but because in the US -- at least when I looked into getting one (several years before Bo was on the scene I met one at our local dog park) breeders would only sell to approved homes, and their requirements for approval were pretty stringent. I own a small home outright, with plenty of land and some dog and much animal care experience, but it was pretty clear to me that I didn't meet the requirements of any breeders whose websites I visited. It was not what you know, but who you know. I probably could have imported one more easily than purchased one in the US.
