A friend of mine told me that after 60 years pbs broke from its longstanding policy of not airing religous programming. They aired something on the life of muhammud. A friend of his works for pbs and told him that it was " suggested " they air it or their budget would get " revisited ". I dont have first hand knowledge of this fact and I didnt see it myself but haven't found anything on it and was wondering if anyone had seen it or knows anything about it. Thanks

(21,755 posts)PBS has done lots on religion... This is complete non-sense that has the sole purpose of spreading more fear about how 'the evil Muslim' are taking us over.
Complete bullshit.

disparity between what modern fundamentalists
believe and what Muhammad intended.

(115,691 posts)and I watched the whole thing. It was well-done and quite interesting, and it was not "religious" - it was a biographical/historical piece about the life and influence of Mohammed. PBS has also done programs about the Buddha.

(26,060 posts)been to look up the info yourself instead of signing up here to concern troll the issue. The whole thing is bullshit, PBS has done many things on religion. You and your friend are ignorant rubes who in a different world would be ashamed to be so easily led by morons.

(62,444 posts)Countless PBS documentaries have addressed various aspects of religious history and/or experience.
If you ever actually watched PBS, you'd know better:

Please explain WTF makes you or your friend think that PBS does not air documentaries dealing with religious/historical figures.
While you are at it, how about explaining what makes you, or anyone, think a documentary about "the life of Mohammed" to be "religious programming"?
Or is that somehow not a part of history?

(22,165 posts)PBS does not air religious programming (thank God ) .... Documentaries about religion, religious leaders, etc is NOT religious programming.
BainsBane
(53,032 posts)and the show was a biography of Mohammed. It wasn't an effort to convert anyone.
As for religion, think of the famous Bill Moyers interviews with Joseph Campbell, or historical programs on the crusades. Every Christmas they have programs on Christ as well as Christmas choirs. Your friend obviously doesn't watch PBS and heard Rush or Fox make some idiotic claim.

(61,695 posts)Multiple long segments covering his life, writing the Koran, development of philosophy, etc. Covered several hours. Looked more like a documentary, not "religious programming."
And certainly not the first time. I've seen PBS programming on The Gnostic Gospels with Dr Elaine Pagels, etc.
Tell your friend not to get his panties in a wad.

(3,109 posts)PBS did a two parter on the life of Buddha. It was very well done. They have also done documentaries on the life of Jesus.
What I want to know is why they won't air Citizen Koch.
