What has been sent cannot be unsent. It's too easy to do. A better practice is to compose diatribes and the like in Notepad or another editor and leave them unsaved until you make a decision about what has been written. Clicking the x in the upper righthand corner can be used to good effect that way.

In English, words ending in the vowel "o" tend to convey maleness, while "a" and "i" usually connote femaleness.

I use LiberalEsto as a screen name because

1. I'm liberal & proud and
2. Esto is short for Estonian, referring to my ethnic background. However Esto tends to be used mainly among English speakers of Estonian ancestry, and I forget that most people aren't familiar with the term.
3. It's not always easy to find a liberal Estonian in this country.

On the other hand, the people of Estonian ancestry I have know have all been fine people, so Tere.

though Peep is usually a nickname for Peter

It's possible that they or their families are from one of the earlier waves of Estonian immigrants to the US, who settled in the Minnesota area. They tend to be more left-leaning.

Most of those that came over from my parents' post WW2 generation, my parents excepted, tended to be Nixon-Reagan Republicans. I got kicked out of the Estonian House in NYC during the Vietnam war era for having the audacity to wear clothing decorated with anti-war symbols.

Peep is in his early 70s, and speaks very little Estonian. His father came here, but I don't know when, but it could have been quite a long time ago. Kaia is his daughter, who's a 20-something. All are quite liberal. The family is near and dear to my wife and me. I didn't know about the nickname. People who worked with him call him Pete, so I suspect you're right. His brother lives nearby. His name is Tiit. That leads to a number of funny stories he has told.

Tiit was, I believe, a shortened form of the name Titus, which would have been pronounced TEEtus in Estonian. It could also be short for Dietrich; Germans lorded it over the Estonians for a very long time, keeping them as serfs. Estonians gained their freedom from serfdom in the 1820s and received surnames at that time.

One of my great-grandmothers was named Hip. I also came across the male name Mango during some genealogical research. I haven't the faintest idea on the origin of Hip, but Mango is likely an Estonianization of the name Magnus.

Kaie is a beautiful name and means echo.
