Charles P. Pierce: Manning was treated barbarically for 112 days. This didn't happen by accident.

From Charles P. Pierce:

Manning was treated barbarically over those 112 days. This didn't happen by accident. This wasn't an oversight. It was a policy decision. He was treated that way deliberately by this government. He was treated that way because that is how this administration wanted him treated. This is an administration that simply does not want the people to know what is being done in its name. The last administration didn't want that either, but C-Plus Augustus wasn't a constitutional law professor promising the most open and transparent administration in history, either.) And that's the part of the story that shouldn't go away with Bradley Manning.

is going to offer some "Real Change," the situation will continue as it is.

A real democracy is what they have in Switzerland, where the public votes on important issues. You want med marijuana, then you vote Yea or Nay. You want to reject a Surveillance Society, then you vote Yea or Nay.

Here we get to have a "choice" between two neo-cons, one of whom will clamp down on the civil rights of the LBGT crowd, as well as women's health, while the other of whom won't. But in 90% of all the other issues, including treating the public as though the public is suspect of being "terrorists" - the voters have no choice.

That's what this realization is. So true, Charlie P.! My sad is big today. Thank you, kpete, for your integrity and commitment to truth. I do not take them for granted.

Because of credit for time served and military parole rules, Manning could be out of prison in as little as seven years, his lawyer said. The lawyer also said that he would seek a presidential pardon, casting the punishment as a disturbing example of the Obama administration’s crackdown on whistle-blowers.

He will get credit for 1,294 days already served, or roughly three and a half years. The credit includes 112 days that Lind granted him for mistreatment during his detention at the military brig at Quantico

People like to leave off the details......
