George Zimmerman was on the hunt today -- for a shotgun ... TMZ has learned.
Zimmerman went to Kel-Tec in Cocoa, Florida ... a gun manufacturing company. We're told he was asking questions about the legality of buying a shotgun -- specifically, the Kel-Tec KSG.
The gun in question is a tactical shotgun, often used for home defense. It holds 12 rounds of 12 gauge shells.
And this is interesting ... Kel-Tec manufactures the PF-9 gun -- the pistol Zimmerman used to kill Trayvon Martin.
We're told the owner's son took Zimmerman on a tour of the grounds, including the area where the firearms are assembled. The photo of Zimmerman and an employee (above) was taken inside the assembly plant.
It's unclear if he actually bought the shotgun while he was there.

(12,041 posts)A person who acts so proud of being a murderer is a likely repeat offender. The so called "responsible gun owners" proved to the world that they can not be trusted with guns when they supported this murderer.

(31,683 posts)He is very very happy with himself. How can anyone not see how joyful and carefree his life is. He is not tortured at all - and obviously isn't feeling threatened and fearful.

(8,556 posts)Maybe it was. OTOH it happens in court cases sometimes. Apparently some members of the OJ jury gained a lot of weight during the trial as well.

(61,935 posts)To believe that I'd need to see some serious evidence that being obese gets you acquitted, considering that there is evidence it gets you passed over for jobs/ promotions and paramedics stop trying to revive you sooner.
I think stress-eating and possibly a disruption of his normal exercise routines would be more likely causes of the weight gain.

(12,072 posts)No one can deny that he has had thousands of death threats against him.
With the jury's verdict all of his rights were restored to him, including gun ownership and his CCW. So it isn't surprising that he would buy such a gun.
Personally, I think it is excessive firepower for home defense. But it is his money so he can buy what he wants.

(4,462 posts)Zimmerman is too emotional a figure to involve in discussions of gun control, the rights of those acquitted of crimes, or how to deal with real threats against unpopular people.
It really is sad to see liberal values evaporate because the subject may be contemptible.

(42,770 posts)that he was a victim in the whole episode, he wouldn't be flaunting and glamorizing guns. He would be having second thoughts about the dangers of them. He would be overwhelmed with sorrow about what happened and be founding anti-gun group

But we also have Freedom of Speech at DU and elsewhere and we can say/write express anything we want about him.
Why is that so hard to understand?

(271 posts)But he is also receiving death threats against his life.
should he just do nothing and wait for someone(who hates him) to kill him? (which would be ironic because they would be doing the very thing they hate Zimmerman for doing)
Paladin
(28,204 posts)He didn't have to buy that shotgun at the same place that manufactured that pistol he used. And he sure as hell didn't have to show off his trimmed-down physique and shit-eating grin in that photo. Just further confirmation that you Gun Enthusiasts have a dandy new mascot with a penchant for public gloating. Congrats.

(43,085 posts)I think most of America already knows George Zimmerman is armed based on his own past actions.
GalaxyHunter
(271 posts)They also know he had his hand gun taken from him, so maybe it makes sense he is on the market for a new gun?
Tommy_Carcetti
(43,085 posts)Once he was acquitted (much to many's dismay), he was allowed to be in possession of a firearm. While I believe the firearm he used to shoot Trayvon still remains as evidence as to any possible federal charges, he can still own a gun.
And everyone will automatically associate George Zimmerman's name and face with that of a gun. He doesn't need to go around and seemingly gloating at gun factories to prove a point.
But whatever. Murderous assholes will be murderous assholes.

(34,127 posts)Its a bull pup design where the barrel meets the minimum length (18 inches), but the receiver and chamber feeding occurs further back in the stock.
Short-barrel shotguns and rifles are not illegal in most places, per se, but they do require federal paperwork and extra fees.

(28,204 posts)Sweaty concentration on firearm details are a means of deflecting attention from negative gun news, used repeatedly by gun militants such as yourself. It's not working anymore---but thanks so very much for letting us all know just where that MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny Rail is situated on Z's new neighborhood protection weapon.....

(34,127 posts)There is no attempt to fool anyone. I replied to someone who implied the shotgun was an SBS. It isn't an SBS and I explained why.
There is no deflection. In fact, it has opposite impact of staying focused on what the firearm really is.

Ugly crap like this isn't going to endear anyone to the Zimmerman family except the people who were already cheerleading him.
