Feedback requested: charity and TV

I've got a couple of ideas that I just wanted to share to see if they sound plausible or dumb, and perhaps someway to get them initiated.

The only thing I request is not to be told they're utterly impossible. If either of them sounds interesting, perhaps someone might have some ideas on how they could be implemented.

The first concerns "Single issue voters." We know these voters--they're often about candidates trying to get voters based on fear and/or single topics, like religion, gun ownership, women's rights, and such.

I thought it's time we started to clear up some of these issues with voters, and told the voters the truth, insofar as it is capable of explaining some of them in a way people would not only understand, but also help to explain to others about. I see a TV format, an hour long event, with only that one topic to look at. I'm sure it could go on for quite some time, but I thought an hour per week, perhaps on a Saturday afternoon or evening, with repeats during the week.

A single host, using the 1st 15 minutes of the show to discuss the issue from the viewpoint of news on the topic, with both sides included. A second quarter could have a panel of experts to talk about the legalities of an issue, and as objective an opinion on the topic as possible. The 3rd segment could be the opinion of ordinary people talking about how the issue impacts their lives, and the last quarter could be some Q&A on the subject. The social issues brought out the past couple of weeks would certainly be a good place to start talking, and clear up misunderstandings for everyone.

The second thought I had was about charities and donations.

I know I've often felt paralyzed knowing that I can't donate a good amount to the many charities I support, and I often feel helpless as a result. And living on a fixed income just makes it even more frustrating to find ways to help out if I can.

We all pretty much know that if we don't have the money, we never really miss it, and I know when I worked, the company took out a certain amount of my check every month for a charitable amount that I actually never saw. I thought about how many of us lived on those fixed incomes, and know a lot of older and disabled people who don't have a lot of their own, but would love to be able to help out with charities they once supported.

So I thought, perhaps there could be a choice for those on government checks to have a small sum taken out of their monthly checks, perhaps $5, or even $10 to go to charities they support. They can elect to keep it going, or they could cancel whenever they thought they couldn't afford any longer. I think that a lot of us spend a lot more than that on a monthly basis without even knowing where it's going, and people would have a little less frustration knowing that they are still contributing to the causes they have always found important to them.

Of course, these suggestions are just germinating in my brain. I wouldn't have a whole idea on how to implement them, or if they are at all feasible. But I thought some people might find them of some value, and offer ways to get them seen and contemplated.
