(16,067 posts)The only one I can see, based on those who keep talking about it, is that the color of his skin, makes a lot of white folks feel real uncomfortable...conservative white folks, that is!
And the politicians that keep bringing it up, seem to all be white and come from areas with a majority of white conservatives...so that's what it must be.
President Obama has committed the High Crime of being black and siting in a White(conservative) Man's only chair!

(82,383 posts)They know impeachment is bad and they know Democrats are bad, so Democratic Presidents should be impeached.
I remember years ago, in Delaware, when Carper was governor, there were bumper stickers from some group saying "Impeach Carper." It was like he didn't sign some law they wanted and therefore, should be impeached.
Republicans like the game. To them it's all a game. Impeachment is like a big checkmate on your opponent, so they want to use it to "win."

(38,893 posts)court the NDAA section 1021 which provides for the indefinite detention with neither trial nor representation of anyone in the world, with no statement specifically excluding US citizens (what's not written is an intended open door for abuse).
These two actions eliminate much or all of the following sections of the Bill of Rights:
1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 14th and perhaps even more.

Then a over a year of domestic terrorism against the Occupy movement with nearly 8,000 peaceful activists arrested (zero banksters who nearly destroyed the economy and stole trillions of our tax dollars; see the current thread about Summers and the End Game memo).
Then lies about protection for whistle-blowers (his statements regarding such were recently redacted from an internet site). Then bullying of journalists and whistle-blowers. Strengthening the Bush regime surveillance state LIE.
The TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership), a corporate coup which will allow corporations to write legislation for our and several countries...!...is being discussed and voted upon in secret from the US public. It's not democracy when we don't have a say in what is foisted upon us.

Where is the outrage?

IMO, you're on the right track. There are certainly several decisions and actions undertaken by the President that on the surface appear to be illegal, or at least flirting on the edge of illegality. I'm not referring to Benghazi, IRS and the other manufactured "poutrage", but such items as you mentioned. We don't know enough to say they are impeachable actions....but they certainly merit investigation by Congress or special investigator with supaena powers and include sworn testimony. Of course, this should be conducted in the open. Whatever the findings are would guide whatever futher actions are warranted.
However, the rich old white men who can only get alf an erection aren't going to impeach the president for extrajudicial killings. That's probably the only thing he does that they really like.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)The idea is to restore Congressional oversight where it has quite obviously been lacking. What we know so far is concerning. Lets find out what we don't know... it may be even more concerning. At the very least, it raises the veil of secrecy, and forces the Executive Branch to reveal the secretive (and apparently weak) legal arguements they are using to justify their actions.

Illegal spying by NSA, as found by puppet FISA court that aproves everything, and eventually admitted by administration.
Thats enough there to warrant an investigation....what is there thats still being hidden? An investigation doesn't have to be a GOP witch hunt. If Dem led or independant, with only consciencious participants, it could do a thorough unbiased job. Of course, if its put off and illegal activities keep trickling out, and lies exposed, then the GOP will start smelling blood in the water and will take the lead in investigations. Then it will become a partisan witch hunt.
So, Dems can take the initiative, and do a proper job of it....and they won't face an election backlash. Or the Dems can stonewall until GOP finally takes the initiative, in which case Dems take a beating at the polls, and probably lose Senate and WH.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)Section 1021 of the NDAA as a matter of law does NOT authorize any detention of any American citizen anywhere at any time. The federal courts have ruled conclusively on that.
Also, the President did not commit 'domestic terrorism' against anyone.

If you trust the surveillance state (a Bush family creation from which they profit wildly) and the government to NOT abuse the gaping holes purposefully left in Section 1021, you are beyond assistance.
Do you also know that the recent NDAA provides for the US government to LIE to our faces? Legalizes the use of full propaganda (LYING) upon the US public? Do you actually trust this government?!?

(118,236 posts)because there's no litigable issue. When I suspect elected officials lie to me, I have the recourse of not voting for them. Not everybody lies, but it's worth remembering that some people lie sometimes. (154,021 posts)It is no longer a judicial act in extremis, but a political act.
But one could be made over the NSA, will it? Not very likely.
I was just answering to the OP, not saying that it will. For starters it lacks the emotional oomph for a judicial lynching. To do that you need something simple, a simple easy to understand story. This is not it.
As to congress...in a just world a few would be voted out by constituents, for major ethical breaches, that ain't gonna happen either. Hell, the previous administration would be on it's way to The Hague, ain't gonna happen either.
Realize my city just got done with exactly that. How you manage a scandal will tell you a lot of how desperate they are.
In fact, Benghazi, the closest to that emotional oomph, is still too complex and distant, why Issa has failed to. The IRS, been simple, but for some reason that never took off either.
Go ahead, call me cynical.

(2,017 posts)SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., (Aug. 20, 2013) In court papers filed today (PDF), the United States Department of Justice requested that George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Paul Wolfowitz be granted procedural immunity in a case alleging that they planned and waged the Iraq War in violation of international law.
Plaintiff Sundus Shaker Saleh, an Iraqi single mother and refugee now living in Jordan, filed a complaint in March 2013 in San Francisco federal court alleging that the planning and waging of the war constituted a crime of aggression against Iraq, a legal theory that was used by the Nuremberg Tribunal to convict Nazi war criminals after World War II.
"The DOJ claims that in planning and waging the Iraq War, ex-President Bush and key members of his Administration were acting within the legitimate scope of their employment and are thus immune from suit, chief counsel Inder Comar of Comar Law said.
The Westfall Act certification, submitted pursuant to the Westfall Act of 1988, permits the Attorney General, at his or her discretion, to substitute the United States as the defendant and essentially grant absolute immunity to government employees for actions taken within the scope of their employment.

what you don't seem to understand is, the punishment for these crimes is life imprisonment or death.
if you think you could get the majority of americans to get behind jailing the prior administration for life, or even worse, the death penalty, you're sadly mistaken.
and were the DOJ to even attempt that route... there would be political Armageddon that would make todays obstructionism look like patty-cake.
