Poll: Boehner Deeply Unpopular in Home State

The citizens of Ohio aren't very happy with House Speaker John Boehner, with only 20 percent saying they approve of the speaker's job performance and 59 percent saying they disapprove, according to a Friday poll from Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling.

That's a pretty substantial fall from when PPP last polled Ohio on Boehner's job performance last October. Back then, 33 percent approved and 46 percent disapproved.

PPP polled 551 Ohio voters via telephone from August 16 to 19. The margin of error is plus-or-minus 4.2 percent.

1. The important number is what people in his district think of his job performance.

Boner doesn't get elected statewide, he get elected by a slice of the state. He ran against an appealing Democratic candidate in 2010 and beat what I thought was a person that would have been a much better Congressman.

Which doesn't suggest anything good for Republicans about their popularity or the intensity of opposition to their policies in OH.

2. Yet he ran unopposed in 2012 and I wouldn't be surprised if he is again unopposed in 2014.

That's the end result of gerrymandering and corporately funded campaigns.

It includes a big chunk of butler county, a fast growing community.

The big movie theater up there decided they didn't want to show brokeback mountain or milk. When I asked the theater manager about it he just said "our folks don't go much for that ad entertainment".

Orangeman will die in that seat but he ain't gonna get knocked out if it.

Check the polls in his district. I'll bet they're different from the statewide polls.

Nothing matters but how people vote in his district.

except from teaparty candidates. I bet that's where a lot of his unpopularity comes from--he's just not extreme enough for them.

The Repuke party rewards extremism; it will not change any time soon.

And with their gerrymandering, my bet is that they love him.
