I think i just threw up a little in my mouth.
ACK
Ben Affleck will replace Christian Bale as Batman in the highly anticipated Batman-Superman movie that's scheduled to be released on July 17, 2015.
Warner Bros. made the announcement on Thursday.
Affleck, 41, will star opposite Henry Cavill's Superman in the as-yet-untitled film, which was unveiled in July at Comic-Con. It's a sequel to this summer's Man of Steel, a re-imagining of the superhero's origin story that also starred Cavill and has pulled in more than $650 million worldwide since its June release, according to The Wrap.

(17,862 posts)universe they will probably tone down the darker aspects of Batman. I think Affleck can pull it off. This Batman will be more science fiction oriented (more powerful and elaborate gadgets possibly including battle armor). They should keep his mysterious nature and the ability to think strategically. They should also emphasize that he is the fail safe superhero (the one who can take the other superheroes down if necessary). He is a normal human in the middle of most who have super powers (Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Martian Manhunter) or highly advanced alien technology (Green Lantern) or magic.
When he was younger I thought Robert DeNiro would have made a great Batman. I probably would have preferred someone like him to Affleck.

(12,778 posts)I guess I'm just thinking back to "The Dark Knight" and thinking that Ben Affleck could never have pulled that off.
BTW, I was a big fan of Batman comics, and I remember him as being a pretty dark character. I don't know if I even have any Justice League comics any more.

(17,862 posts)but I do have a lot of respect for what Keaton accomplished with the character (my second favorite Batman). It is unfortunate that he did not continue with the series, but given the plot choices that were made for the last two movies, I think he made the right decision.
I think most superhero movies only have three good ones in them (origin, fall, redemption and "death" . Much more becomes episodic repeating the same themes over and over again (like James Bond). The comics suffer from this as well. That is why alternate/elsewhere stories are so popular - you can burn the characters out - even kill them to tell a more effective story. The Marvel universe movies may be an exception. I hate to admit it, but I missed Iron Man 3 in the theater and am awaiting the DVD (please no plot details). In some ways Iron Man 3 is the fourth Iron Man movie (just as The Avengers served as a sequel to Thor). Maybe the curse is broken of bad third Marvel movies (X-Men III, Spiderman III). I actually like reboots but their should be more time in between. Also an entirely different aspect of the character should be emphasized (that was the mistake with the Spiderman reboot which was the first movie all over again).

(5,599 posts)Christian Bale. This is the worst choice possible. I will not be seeing this movie. He is so overrated I have to wonder who
he gave a blowjob to in Hollywood. Argo was not the end all be all, yet he became a Hollywood darling overnight. Well
I am not buying this garbage.

(43,151 posts)Affleck's okay. Not my favorite actor, but I don't dislike him. I liked Argo a lot.
He looks more the part of Batman than some others to fill the role (See: Keaton, Michael).
Frankly, I found the last couple of Batman films to be woefully overrated. (The Dark Knight got much of its acclaim thanks in part to the unfortunate early death of Heath Ledger.)
